@JonoH Thanks for the pointer to http://boinx.com for live video production stuff on OS X. Had not seen them before!

Recording Skype video on OS X: Call Recorder US$14.95. Records video, audio on 2 separate tracks. http://is.gd/1MRy Hat-tip @cameronreilly.

via Twitter Web Client

@StuartLivesey I’ll use the A/V or Component or HDMI output from the camera into some sort of device to go USB then Quicktime.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to StuartLivesey

@StuartLivesey My aim is to have “the good camera” present as a Quicktime component so it works with Cam Twist vision switcher.

Advance Notice 3: On 26 February I’ll be liveblogging from the Politics & Technology Forum, Parliament House, Canberra.

Advance Notice 2: “Stilgherrian Live” Road Trip Sydney to Yass on Thu 25 February. Live video from a moving car! (Hence my enquiries.)

via Twitter Web Client

Advance Notice 1: On 9 February I’ll be liveblogging all day from the Media 09 conference. http://media09.com Anyone want to sponsor?

via Twitter Web Client

@fuzheado Agreed. Actual usable features on nvideo cameras seem to be disappearing in favour of LOTS OF PIXELS.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to fuzheado

Dear Twitterverse, also recipe for recording Skype video chat onOS X. (Or should I just use Snapz Pro X and Audio Hijack Pro?)

via Twitter Web Client

Dear Twitterverse, can has little box that’s A/V RCA in on side, USB other side, comes up as Quicktime component on OS X?

via Twitter Web Client

Damn. The JVC Everio GZ-HD6 HD camera can NOT stream video to Firewire while in record mode, only in playback. Must find alternative.

via Twitter Web Client

RT @news_business: WANT to punch the economy in the face? http://tinyurl.com/ag2y34 [You guys at NEWS.com.au are SO tabloid!]

via Twitter Web Client

@firstdogonmoon Maybe you should draw a diagram of the hierarchy of humourous objects, like a medieval ladder to heaven.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to firstdogonmoon

Dear Twitterverse, can has JVC Everio GZ-HD6 or similar to stream video via Firewire to Quicktime in OS X? QT Pro sees cam, but no image.

via Twitter Web Client

@BrandDNA I see a follow as stopping in the crowd to listen. Now if they INTERACT, that’s different. I’ll thank people for DOING something.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to BrandDNA

@BrandDNA You’re not “supposed” to DMs thanks to new followers; it’s your choice. I don’t unless I’ve something specific to say to them.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to BrandDNA

RT @johnhalton: Pro Twitter tip: if you don’t find someone’s tweets interesting, why not “unfollow” them? Works wonders. [snorts]

via Twitter Web Client

@firstdogonmoon Ah! People With Clue usually use “disc drive” (or “disk”, if you’re American) to mean the HDD, not the optical drive. Loser.

via Twitter Web Client

@firstdogonmoon Your computer making strange crunchy noises is total HDD failure imminent. Backup NOW then turn it off.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to firstdogonmoon

@franksting I did mean the Addison Rd markets, but we have already broken fast and returned home with our vegetables.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to franksting

@schlingel I played with BoinxTV yesterday, though, and it looks VERY nice. I’ll probably get it for some seminar recording soon. :)

via Twitter Web Client in reply to schlingel

@juhasaarinen I’ts 0615 now. I’m normally up at this hour. I did a few 0400 wake-ups last week but I seem to b recovered.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to juhasaarinen

@schlingel Danke! BoinxTV would be VERY useful for studio, but without live Quicktime output I can’t use it with Ustream on the road.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to schlingel

@jeffsonstein Ideally I want ONE vision switcher which I can use for both SD or even HD live-to-disc, as well as lower-res live streaming.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein Oops, typo. Cam Twist is hard-coded to 320 x 240. OK for now, that matches Ustream, but that’ll eventually change.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

RT @bemaia: Cockroach should be one of Australia famous animals like Kangaroo and Koala. [Agree in Sydney, certainly!]

Emerges. Monday, 0545, but I feel remarkable energised. But will I conquer the rather large to-do-list today? Let’s worry about that later.

via Twitter Web Client

I believe I should be asleep. Early start to write the things I didn’t write today. [exit]

via Twitter Web Client

@jeffsonstein On 25 Feb we’re doing “Stilgherrian Live” from a moving vehicle on a road trip to Yass. @Nickhodge driving. 3-camera set-up.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@firstdogonmoon There’s a 5-letter word to describe people like you, starts with a “c” and ends with an exclamation mark.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to firstdogonmoon

@jeffsonstein I intend to get a couple Ecamm BT-1 Bluetooth webcams too. http://is.gd/hZ0A

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein The alternative is to have a producer / vision switcher on on machine, I use another for interaction with audience.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein Boinx’s interface fills the screen. If I use a screen grabber, it means I can’t use that screen for anything else like chat.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@SilkCharm @facibus But to compare, the army and police trust their staff with guns, but they still have safety catches. Accidents happen.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SilkCharm

@jeffsonstein [nods] The aims are simplicity, immediacy and mobility. Must be able to go live with little notice or prep from anywhere.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein Sadly, though, there’ve been no updates to Cam Twist in a year, and it’s hard-coded to 640 x 480 and has some irritations.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein However the goal is to do everything on one MacBook Pro, including text chat and other data streams. Mobile.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein I could use GrabberRaster on either of them, of another computer for the video uplink to Ustream.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein Neither Wirecast nor Boinx present their output as a Quicktime component, so you can’t link them directly to Ustream.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@firstdogonmoon I didn’t say hi to Steve because I didn’t want to jump on your popularity-driven bandwagon. Carbon neutrality FTW!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to firstdogonmoon

@andrewsayer I did hear about Ma.gnolia.com’s catastrophic data problems. Ouch. Made me check my own backups again. :)

via Twitter Web Client in reply to andrewsayer

@andrewsayer I find that people who bitch and whinge and the kind of people who bitch and whinge. The venue makes no difference. ;)

via Twitter Web Client in reply to andrewsayer

@andrewsayer Nope, not Reddit. Only “social bookmarking” is Delicious. I use none of the social stuff. Purely to sync links to my website.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to andrewsayer

@andrewsayer Sadly, yes, I seem to be overtaking people fast. That said, I get a LOT of value in return.

via Twitter Web Client

@SnarkyPlatypus To migrate ‘tween phones of different brands, sync to ‘puter’s address book, then sync back?

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

@andrewsayer Indeed, Sir, I bow to your superior effluxion of tweets. [bows] See? :P

Hint to everyone: the Internet is deeply intertwingled. A major outage in one city can cause weirdness all over the place elsewhere-like.

via Twitter Web Client

@bigjsl Agreed, network engineers should be hard at work fixing a fault. However customer service staff can tell us what’s happening.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to bigjsl

@mands_syd Sadly I have no clear answer to my lack of writing except, um, “I wasn’t in the mood, I have a headache.” Oh, wait.

@babyexpat @impluvium I wasn’t thinking about money / lost $, just loss of service. Tell people what’s going on they’ll be less unhappy.

via Twitter Web Client

Yes, ‘tis cool. Call Recorder for OS X records Skype video for US$14.95, can even split out channels http://is.gd/1MRy Ta, @cameronreilly.

via Twitter Web Client

@deconstructo Yes well AARNet is a proper network, not a consumer-grade intertangled piece of shit.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to deconstructo

@coliwilso I have clients email to say “the Internet is down”. They don’t grok that email requires the Internet. For them, Internet = Web.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to coliwilso

@ViciousPotato My point is that there is a system for notifying outages for roads. Like, the radio, SMS… Natch you don’t use the Internet.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to ViciousPotato

If a traffic problem affects 10,000 drivers, they broadcast alerts. Yet Internet outages happen in silence. Why?

via Twitter Web Client

@jeffsonstein: No, Professor Sonstein, I do NOT “need one of these”: http://is.gd/4wAH

Can someone explain to me why a lava lamp NEEDS a USB connector? PEOPLE ARE DYING AND YOU MAKE SHIT LIKE THIS?

@news_business Oh, when I say your headlines are “SO tabloid” I mean that as a compliment! I’ll provide more feedback later.

via Twitter Web Client

RT @SnarkyPlatypus: I must say that the Eurodance category in http://last.fm though is full of win.

via Twitter Web Client

@JonoH Mind you, Boinx’s software is US$800+ for full broadcast quality, Cam Twist is free for the low-res Ustream quality.

@jeffsonstein Task 2: Seminar recording. To cut down post, use live switching to make it a live-to-disc production. SD. Can use 2nd ‘puter.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein Task 1A: “Stilgherrian Live” from the office can have more complex set-up, but prefer it uses same tools as Task 1.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein Task 1: “Stilgherrian Live”: mobile; one MacBookPro for switching, chat, etc; low-res (currently) to Ustream. Needs Quicktime.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeffsonstein

@jeffsonstein I have several different live video production tasks, but prefer not to have two different workflows/tools.
