I feel a blog post coming on. Though possibly that’s just constipation.

@sealfur The 8-second delay is a great boundary condition! I daresay most would consider it “live”. And yet… speed of light finite…

via Twitter Web Client in reply to sealfur

@sealfur The “live from” phrase is good. But a program can be “live from Melbourne” in a studio. More interested in what YOU would use tho.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to sealfur

@s_bridges Then “studio program” was distinguished from “outside broadcast”, and audience or not was the “live audience” tag. I am confused.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to s_bridges

@s_bridges “First broadcast in real-time” seems overly-long. ABC Radio usage when I was there was just “live” vs “pre-recorded”. [shrugs]

@SnarkyPlatypus Malheureusement, je ne suis pas à Londres. Je serais heureux d’être à Londres though. Ou même pâte, Bangkok.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

I”m not saying my usage is necessarily “right”. Language changes etc. Curious to see if there’s a consensus.

@s_bridges The recorded-in-one-take is what I would have once called “live to tape”, when we had tape, and “with a live audience”.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to s_bridges

I contend that an event with an audience in a pub, which is recorded for later upload, is not “a live show”. Yes? No?

via Twitter Web Client

For a TV/video program to be “live”, it must: 1. be broadcast in real time; 2. have an audience on site; 3. both? I say 1. What do you say?

@SnarkyPlatypus Bonjour. Il est gris. Rien que des gris. Gris éternel. Elle doit prendre fin. Elle prend fin. Il n’ya pas d’autre moyen.

@OGalacho If you are saying it’s not funny already, then you have given up too soon, I reckon.

Oi! That is a completely gratuitous use of the planet Jupiter and you should be ashamed of yourself. Funny, though.

Anyway, thank you for destroying my evening joy, you bastards.

@andrewsayer @akent OK, damn, so it wasn’t the ISS. http://tr.im/y05i Theories? It was maybe some other satellite flare?

via Twitter Web Client

OTOH, that’s more butt-crack than I wanted to see just now. Or ever.

I just saw the International Space Station flare bright in the sunset and I’m filled with childish glee.

@DDsD The footage will be posted online, but since it was the official Parliament House crew I suspect they don’t work weekends.

@lewellyn @jason_a_w I’m with you on “live” vs “recorded live” distinction. Blurb for a recorded show called it “live” ‘cos an audience.

Thanks for the thoughts coming in re my “live” question. http://tr.im/y2VC I’m not sure that a consensus is forming. Yet.

Dear IT Media, that a company is releasing security patches according its usual schedule IS NOT NEWS. It’s just routine maintenance.

via Twitter Web Client

@SnarkyPlatypus I’m seriously thinking of a new news program which only contains what’s actually known, not what pundits speculate.
