Hmmm… Lots of thoughts about backups flowing in, thank you. I shall compile and summarise rather then respond inidividually now.

via TweetDeck

Heh @peterhau! And, with respect to @symantec’s products, preferably someone who’s not a vendor. ;)

via TweetDeck

I want to do “Patch Monday” on backups for small business, but need someone to say the things I’d say about testing, documenting etc.

via TweetDeck

Actually @peterhau Ghost did have (does have?) facilities for incremental images for backup purposes. I’d used it myself, but not recently.

via TweetDeck

What’d be the nearest Windows equivalent to Apple’s Time Machine, i.e. a set-and-forget local incremental drive backup? Ghost, still?

via TweetDeck

I know of a 2-person PR firm who had their laptops stolen while at lunch, no backups for 4+ months. Much re-work required, very painful.

via TweetDeck

RT @samotage: I’ve used a cloud service to successfully corrupt data. Does that count? [Oh absolutely LOL!]

via TweetDeck

You know, @trib, recovering from “human error” is just as important as recovering from hardware failure, I reckon.

via TweetDeck

Crikey haveth an new TV blogge, “White Noise” http://bit.ly/d1dduc Nominate Australia’s worst TV show http://bit.ly/9du41t

via TweetDeck

(I’m looking specifically for someone to interview who’s actually recovered from a failure, not just who does backups.)

via TweetDeck

Has anyone using cloud backup services actually used them to restore data? Any real experiences?

Alas @acatinatree @noahod @SnarkyPlatypus the cartoonist is indeed blaming “the internet” for his poor time management and lack of focus.

via TweetDeck

Cartoonist to quit internet for 4 months, to blog about it by fax & phone. http://bit.ly/929WEi

via TweetDeck

Hey @abcnews I agree with @NewtonMark, a pilot going around ‘cos of poor visibility is NOT “drama” “safety incident”. http://bit.ly/aHLKyb

Gee, isn’t the Liberal leader in Tasmania such a good sport, such a good loser. http://bit.ly/9LXh5N

via TweetDeck

@erkpod That 5 hours includes research, script, re-coding, writing the blog post, QA etc. So the total time.

via TweetDeck in reply to erkpod

RT @kdelarue: Bleating goldfish? Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.

via TweetDeck

@erkpod No, “Patch Monday” has to be filed on Monday. It’s about 5 hours’ work. I like to have the core interview(s) recorded Friday.

via TweetDeck in reply to erkpod

No @purserj I don’t think I need to surge goldfish-like to re-bleat the latest Apple media release. I have nothing to add, care even less.

via TweetDeck

Still completely uninspired for the “Patch Monday” podcast though. I still have a few hours…

via TweetDeck

Actually @jonoabroad I think protected tweets are a bit silly generally. Either you’re having a public conversation or you’re not. YMMV.

“Calling Conroy an idiot won’t stop the filter” says @R_Chirgwin http://bit.ly/a7z4xp

via TweetDeck

Aha! Amy Simmons is @amesimmons with protected tweets, which seems a bit silly for a media person. [shrugs] It just writes itself!

via TweetDeck

Well @abcnews there’s my theme for “The 9pm Edict” tonight, eh? “Amy Simmons’ Shallow Stereotype Reinforcement Day”. Thanks, I guess.

via TweetDeck

And, @abcnews, “experts say” again? Hint: Promotors / sponsors of an event are not “experts” to attest to popularity. Conflict of interest!

via TweetDeck

What is this, @abcnews? Amy Simmons’ Shallow Stereotype Reinforcement Day? “Fashion and nerds don’t generally mix”? http://bit.ly/bJmS3d

via TweetDeck

Dear 60 Minutes, I’d have referenced your Negus interview with Thatcher, but you made YouTube take it down. I’ll choose another example now.

I still think this is one of the best tweets ever. http://bit.ly/dnG0dZ

Pretty much every time I type “Bartlett” I first type “Bartless” and have to fix it. I have no idea what this means.

via TweetDeck

Carefull readers may note that I just deleted and re-tweeted a tweet. I only do that to fix typos which would screw up searchability.

The word “fail” is not a synonym for “disappointment” or “inconvenience”.

via TweetDeck

Sorry @kolya but @mytvr not yet being in Sydney is a “fail” only of your patience. They do say they’re rolling out in Sydney.

via TweetDeck

Feeling completely uninterested in writing tonight. There shall be no Edict. Is that an Edict?

via TweetDeck

Every time I log into Facebook I feel a little bit of my humanity drain away.

via TweetDeck

Hmmm… I suspect I’d remember who you were and “friend” you if you popped thru a photo from before the gender reassignment.

via TweetDeck

Plus @purserj there’s a distinct implication in the material that they have done a deal with the FTA networks.

via TweetDeck

Not “time shifting for profit”, @purserj, but “leasing you a virtual PVR”. But yes, it’s a curious little legal area I grant you.

via TweetDeck

How is @mytvr making money, @purserj? Erm, by that bizarre concept of charging customers for using the service.

via TweetDeck

Oh bah @SnarkyPlatypus you just want to feel special ‘cos it says “senior” on your own job title! :P

via TweetDeck

Well @izevaka, @mytvr makes it clear you’re just time-shifting the TV programs for personal use, which is legal.

via TweetDeck

So, if an “attractive” actress is spamming me, I’m allowed to kill her, right?

via TweetDeck

Oh as you were, @mytvr, VIC has dropped the permit requirement where prize value is under $5000. http://bit.ly/9DuCPq

via TweetDeck

So @mytvr, this “trade promotion” competition you’re running on Twitter at http://bit.ly/bOeOKY, you’ve got a permit for it, right?

via TweetDeck

Hmmm… myTVR is a “PVR in the cloud” for Australian free-to-air TV. http://bit.ly/5Bxr4G

via TweetDeck

But @jonoabroad why would I visit the L’OrĂ©al website on an iPhone? The photo of Julia Roberts would be TINY!

via TweetDeck

Wondering whether I need to deploy Advanced Anti-Stabbiness Procedures™.

via TweetDeck

Yes, my purpose in visiting your website was indeed to wait over a minute for some lame Flash “experience” to load.

Mobile: Enmore Rd; King St errands; afternoon writing spot (and podcast planning spot, it seems).

via TweetDeck

But, to re-state, I’m especially interested in hearing from people who’ve actually recovered data after failure.
