I’m pleased that there’s still some practical people in the world. http://arseh.at/9q2

@philsweeney Well, small mercies etc. I’m continually amazed at how poorly names are handled in forms and databases. It’s no secret.

@TenguTech Nah, I’m rather handy with the ol’ fire. No need to be concerned.

via TweetDeck in reply to TenguTech

I have arrived at Bunjaree Cottages, where the next task is starting a fire.

@notaname It felt like it was a validation check in the front-end JavaScript, but only because it seemed to happen very quickly.

via TweetDeck in reply to notaname

I am getting far too much work done on the train. This is wrong, somehow.

via TweetDeck

@grantshow Correct, Stilgherrian is my entire name. I’m not the only person with a single name in Australia, far from it.

via TweetDeck in reply to grantshow

What shits me, @PatchouliW, is that Medicare did solid research on naming years ago. DFAT copes with passports too.

via TweetDeck

@PatchouliW It’s only a “natural assumption” by people ignorant of the variety of naming practices and who don’t check edge conditions.

via TweetDeck in reply to PatchouliW

Hah! @2011Census, your eCensus form does not cope with people without a surname. Fail. I had to put a hyphen in there. Arsehats.

Mobile: Newtown station; Strathfield station; Wentworth Falls station; a little shopping; cab to Bunjaree Cottages and some fire-lighting.

via TweetDeck

How very droll, @sylmobile @R_Chirgwin. It shall all be done via the electric communications channels.

via TweetDeck

Discussing with @phildobbie how we’ll slice up @TurnbullMalcolm tomorrow. It won’t hurt a bit, Mr Turnbull.

via TweetDeck

@NickHodgeMSFT I really have no idea about this internet thing.

Ah @DrMiaow! Dark Avenger indeed! We should all check out virus-writing, early-1990s style! http://arseh.at/9pu

via TweetDeck

Oh, and me at CSO yesterday: “LulzSec, WikiLeaks, Murdoch: hacking’s fourth wave” http://arseh.at/9pt

via TweetDeck

Me at CSO: “Polymorphic threats cause pain for traditional anti-virus: Symantec” http://arseh.at/9ps

via TweetDeck

CSO story filed. That should keep the possums happy.

Not paying attention to the news for several days in a row is a bonus, I’m discovering. Helps maintain focus on the bigger picture.

To be clear, it’s not Senator Wong who’s spawning, but her partner Ms Allouache. Nevertheless, spawning is taking place.

via TweetDeck

Mobile: Checking out of Camperdown; errand to Enmore Rd then King St; early lunch at a pub, I think. And I shall be working over lunch.

via TweetDeck

Senator Wong is spawning.

via TweetDeck

@sroc Oh, I didn’t ask any of those questions. I just wanted a number for myself ‘cos I suspect there’s no forms up at the cottages.

via TweetDeck in reply to sroc

Total time on hold 36 mins. Census worker baffled by the only one name thing. But in theory I will now have an eCensus number SMS’d to me.

via TweetDeck

30 minutes on hold. And no, @DrMiaow, at least they haven’t been telling my call is important. Presumably it isn’t.

via TweetDeck

Y’know, @2011Census, telling people on telephone hold how long they can expect to wait is pretty basic in 2011. Annoying you don’t have it.

via TweetDeck

20 minutes in hold.

via TweetDeck

I am amusing myself by imagining that the slow Muzak-style instrumental music-on-hold is actually a pornographic video.

via TweetDeck

The mysterious pre-recorded woman has precious little to say, and must repeat it many times while I wait on hold.

via TweetDeck

The mysterious pre-recorded female voice on hold is now telling me things I do not wish to know. I do not appreciate her company.

via TweetDeck

I am on hold to the Census Inquiry Service. The hold music is shit.

via TweetDeck

Tue plan, unordered: Administrivia; manage client webby work; write for CSO; return to Wentworth Falls; clear the email backlog.

via TweetDeck

“If you … need an eCensus code to complete your form online, call the Census Inquiry Service on 1300 338 776.” /cc @R_Chirgwin

via TweetDeck

@R_Chirgwin Online it is then. I think I’m the only one up there tonight right? Trust me to be different.

via TweetDeck in reply to R_Chirgwin

@R_Chirgwin Sir, do you have Census forms up at Bunjaree Cottages? I must be counted tonight, and I’m heading up this afternoon.

via TweetDeck in reply to R_Chirgwin

New blog post: “Weekly Wrap 61: Exhaustion in the forest”, late and with no picture. http://arseh.at/9pf

via TweetDeck

Also not helpful is not posting anything at my website for more than a week. I’ll have to fix that.

via TweetDeck

Tuesday. This early-rise thing is becoming a habit. And not a very helpful one.
