@brookecooks Gawd, @marcow00tweet would be entitled to walk if as an accountant he was asked to do typing and reception. ;)

@marcow00tweet I’m starting to suspect this is just standardised process by the recruiters ‘cos the company’s head office is overseas.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to marcow00tweet

Though it does seem odd to test for admin and logic skills rather than, say, accounting skills.

via Janetter for Mac

Aha! Further enquiries have revealed that the company is a global web development firm, so a testing process is not uncommon.

via Janetter for Mac

Exactly, @smperris, back them public servants could actually spell and add up columns of numbers.

via Janetter for Mac

The Australian public service used to have an entry test. “Should this letter about trams be filed under energy, sewerage or transport?”

via Janetter for Mac

Interesting. Thanks @6564828 @ataraxite, though I ask ‘cos someone is facing just such tests tomorrow after their interview.

via Janetter for Mac

@SnarkyPlatypus Testing for logic is easy. There’s a whole lot of standardised tests are part of IQ testing, IIRC.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

@6564828 I suspected so. I daresay it’s pretty common in Japan? There’d be more of a culture of tests and exams there?

That question makes me realise that I know fuck all about this whole idea of getting and keeping a job.

via Janetter for Mac

Has anyone heard of Australian companies testing potential new accounting / bookkeeping staff for admin skills and logic during recruitment?

via Janetter for Mac

I do like the term “objective disdain”, @franksting.

via Janetter for Mac

@joncallas @Steve_Lockstep @duckblog @ChrisGatford Indeed. I’m hoping to create a couple new places for such explorations in 2013.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to joncallas

Whew! That conversation with @Steve_Lockstep @joncallas @duckblog @ChrisGatford was exhausting! But that’ll be a fun podcast.

via Janetter for Mac

I’ve so lost control of this conversation, @Steve_Lockstep.

via Janetter for Mac

Right, time to do the “Patch Monday” podcast recording. I think everyone is online as they’re meant to be.

via Janetter for Mac

@SnarkyPlatypus There’s no place like home. Or something.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

Whew! Podcast pre-production done just in time. I’ve recorded the intro, and there’s now just under an hour until the recording time.

via Janetter for Mac

Laughing as I re-listen to the rather silly opening of the “Patch Monday” episode on the Flame worm. zdnet.com/hosing-down-th…

via Janetter for Mac

Oh, I really have to launch straight into this podcast pre-production. Such is life.

via Janetter for Mac

Thanks @mpesce @JohnBirmingham, looks like we still have week to endure. I think we can make it bearable though.

via Janetter for Mac

Is this the day the world ends? I’ve been so confused about all that.

via Janetter for Mac

Wed plan: “Patch Monday” podcast pre-production, then 1100 recording; write for @zdnetaustralia; minor client webby stuff; early night?
