@stufromoz This is the IRS portal, so I can’t think of ANYTHING naughty to do inside there… nothing at all.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to stufromoz

Also impressd that the call began with “Hello, my name is Mr [REDACTED] and my ID number is [REDACTED].” Accountability FTW.

via Janetter for Mac

I was impressed with the clarity of the US IRS process for that phone transaction. Very well scripted.

via Janetter for Mac

OK, that was painless. I now have a US Tax ID aka Employer Identification Number (EIN), roughly equivalent to an Australian Business Number.

via Janetter for Mac

@mattcdef2000 Yes, I have recorded the IRS hold music for your listening pleasure.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to mattcdef2000

The US IRS has the best* hold music I have ever heard. It also sounds like it’s analog, and the tape is old and stretching.

@scottcarson1957 Sure. Though I’m not sure that my word counts for much with the IRS.

“We estimate your wait time to be between 10 and 15 minutes.” I’m glad I choose to use SkypeOut for this call to the US.

via Janetter for Mac

For my sins, I am now phoning the US IRS.

via Janetter for Mac

The first piece of annoying administrivia is to sort out my US Tax ID, hence the IRS website. But I can’t use that form outside the US.
