Mark Pesce’s closing keynote from Web Directions South, “This, That and The Other”, is starting to make its way online. So far there’s the text interspersed with the pre-recorded video segments. The full video, which I helped shoot, will doubtless be online once Mark’s finished editing it.

Stilgherrian Live episode 28, the Totally Natural Edition, is now online for your viewing pleasure.
The audio problems which had plagued us recently were gone, and we started on time. The talk flowed smoothly through the first part of the program, and it was maybe 15 minutes before we hit our first technical glitch. I must find a way to present images in Cam Twist that allows me to preview the picture that’s about to go to air!
For the second week running, the US Federal Reserve (pictured) was the clear winner of “Cnut of the Week”, beating nominees John McCain, Sydney Anglican archibishop Dr Peter Jensen and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
I failed to make contact with Nathanael Boehm to talk about the big day of geekery in Sydney, including the Web Directions South conference — I wasn’t watching my Twitter messages during the program — but First Dog on the Moon phoned in again and that filled an awkward gap when I completely forgot about “Stilgherrian’s Street View”. That’s a shame, because that would have triggered more of a rant. About clueless taxi drivers.
The after-show chat included some interesting thoughts about the nature of the program, and they’ll be reflected next week. Stay tuned.
I’m having an intensely busy week this week, but I’ll still (somehow!) find time to pop into Web Directions South this afternoon for Mark Pesce’s closing keynote “This, That and The Other Thing”. If you’re there, please say hello.
Tonight’s Stilgherrian Live won’t be from Webjam 8, unfortunately, because I’m just way too over-committed to insert an outside broadcast into the schedule. I’ll try to make up for that by doing something… unusual. You have been warned.

Yes, it’s that time of the week, time to call for nominations for “Cnut of the Week” for tomorrow’s edition of Stilgherrian Live (9.30pm Thursdays Sydney time).
It’s the same rules as usual. We’re after people (or abstract forces of nature) who’ve been futilely trying to hold back the tide of digital change.
Who do you nominate, and why?
[Update 9am: It's been pointed out to me that it's not just digital change we're talking about here, but any relentless tide of change.]
Actually, the sexiest woman in all Thailand, Leena Jangjanya (ลีนา จังจรรจา), fell into Bangkok’s polluted Khlong Saen Saeb (คลองแสนแสบ) canal while campaigning today. It’s more like sewage than water.
val told me a short time ago, but it’s being reported in Bangkok’s two leading English-language newspaper websites, The Nation and the Bangkok Post.
Leena reportedly fell from a boat near the Pratunam pier, but is unharmed. That is, until she gets the bad case of diarrhoea.
[P.S. Do not do a Google Images search for "leena" just by itself when safe search is turned off. You have been warned. However it's nice to note that an image search for "leena jang" currently has four of my pages in the top 12.]
This weekend I’m at the Oz-IA/2008 Information Architecture conference in Sydney.
We’re recording the sessions for distribution later. But, as far as possible, we’ll have a live video stream. Do feel free to pop by and have a chat. If it all dies in the arse I’ll be whingeing about it on my Twitter stream.
Stilgherrian Live will start taking on a new form. I’ve just recorded a quick experimental episode live from our back garden using my MacBook Pro and a Telstra NextG card.
It worked!
The bloke at Telstra reckons I should be able to get a 3Mb/second uplink — more than enough for good video quality — which means we can have Stilgherrian Live from Pretty Much Anywhere.
This weekend I’ll be doing some live feeds from the Oz-IA/2008 Information Architecture conference, and next Thursday’s program will be live from Webjam 8 at Bar Broadway.
Where should I broadcast from after that?
Stilgherrian’s links for 15 September 2008 through 19 September 2008, wrapped in a nice green ribbon and love:
- Mobile Broadband Downloads | Telstra Business: These are the drivers for the Sierra Wireless HSUPA card that Telstra’s NextG network have “seeded” me with. It didn’t hurt a bit.
- Bangkok governor 2008 vote | Bangkok Post: Mugshots of the 16 candidates for Governor of Bangkok, with the election to be held on 5 October 2008.
- Falling between the cracks | MISaustralia.com: Simon Sharwood’s fine article explaining how small businesses don’t get the IT products and services they need because the bigger players see them as being too small to worry about.
- NSW Police Present an Award | Fickr: When the crowd at the Marrickville Contemporary Art Prize overflowed into the street, this officer took the stage as if she were accepting an award and made the whole thing fun. It was an excellent example of community policing and she deserves to be congratulated. The video of this event was part of Stilgherrian Live episode 26.
