My week of Monday 13 to Sunday 19 March 2023 was less productive than I’d hoped because fatigue levels were high. I don’t know why. This week’s Wrap is late, and very much a by-the-numbers exercise. Even the photo is from the other week.
Media Appearances
- On Thursday I did ABC RN’s Big Tech segment: Big Tech: “Existential threat” to advertising agencies. Plus, could detection technology render AUKUS submarines useless?
Articles, Podcasts, Photos, Videos, Corporate Largesse
None of these things. You can read my previous writing at Authory, where you can also subscribe to an email compilation of any new stories each Sunday morning. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos appear.
I didn’t do a digital developments post this week because the ANZUS nuclear submarine news crowded out pretty much everything else.
Recommendations
Just a couple of quick ones this week because I’m running late.
- “Existential threat”: the advertising industry is set to fight against reforms to protect your privacy. Such drama.
- As Dr Trent Yarwood put it, “Possibly the most famous quote in infectious diseases, public health and chronic disease medicine might actually be an urban legend.”
The Week Ahead
I have a huge amount of editorial and website work to do for a client, with some of it finally being published later this week. I’m looking forward to see what sort of reaction it gets.
I’ll also plan out my podcast productions for the next couple of months. I have yet to confirm the venue for the Public House Forum on Saturday 1 April, but I should get that done by the end of Tuesday.
Other than that, the NSW state election is on Saturday. I’ve already voted, but I’ll be watching the results come through on Saturday night with a friend in Sydney, and I’ll stay in Sydney through until Monday.
Further Ahead
- The 9pm Public House Forum 7 livestream and recording, Sydney CBD venue TBA, 1 April 2023. Guests include Sydney Morning Herald cartoonist Cathy Wilcox and satirist Mark Humphries. Please click through to book a free ticket, just so I know how many people might be coming. Or just tell me.
- The Sydney Dialogue, Australian Strategic Policy Institute, online, 4–5 April 2023.
- The 9pm Public House Forum 8 livestream and recording, 29 April 2022 (TBA).
- Coronation of Charles III, 6 May 2023, although I have no idea what I’ll actually do about it.
- Truth, Trust and Hope, “a global dialogue on disinformation and the erosion of public understanding and trust in science”, Nobel Prize Outreach, Washington DC and online, 24–26 May 2023.
