Weekly Wrap 807: All the podcasts, all the trains

It was very busy, my week of Monday 10 to Sunday 16 November 2025, despite sleeping all day on Tuesday due to a suspected mild virus. Lots of podcast work, some client work catch-ups, and a very busy weekend. Many trains were involved, so I’ve decided to post a photo of a soon-to-be scrapped V-Set. I will not miss them.

I much prefer the new Mariyung D-Set trains, as photographed on Saturday, representing as they do a literal half-century of advancements. I’ve only travelled in them twice so far, but I may write a brief review of them some time.

Podcasts

  • The 9pm Offworld Colonies with Dr Alice Gorman and Rami Mandow, recorded last week on 5 November and posted this Thursday. Yes, it’s another fun conversation about space.
  • On Wednesday I recorded a podcast with freelance motoring journalist Peter Anderson, editor of The Redline. That one will be posted some time this week.
  • Sunday Single: Amanda Lear: Queen of Chinatown. Recorded by Snarky Platypus on Saturday and posted on Sunday morning… just. My original intentions was to post each Sunday Single episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast early in the morning, but maybe that’s a bit ambitious for a Sunday?
  • On Sunday afternoon, Snarky Platypus and I re-recorded a full episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast, which will be posted in the next few days.

The 9pm Edict and Another Untitled Music Podcast are supported by the generosity of you, their listeners. Please consider supporting them. You can to throw a few coins into the tip jar directly or subscribe for special benefits. There’s also some specific benefits for supporting AUMP.

Articles

  • The Weekly Cybers #93. The Australian government releases its AI plan, the big platforms will cop a “media bargaining incentive”, we continue the countdown to the social media age restrictions, and much more.

Only two today, because this post is running late.

The Week Ahead

Monday and Tuesday will be days of vital administrivia. You may not see much of me on the line, at least once I settle into the rhythm. Much of the rest of the week will then be about podcast work.

On Tuesday evening I’m recording an episode of The 9pm Edict with infectious diseases physician and medtech nerd Dr Trent Yarwood, who’s been on the pod before. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 10am AEDT that day, 18 November. This episode will be edited and posted early next week.

Between now and Thursday I’ll also edit and post the two podcasts that we’ve already recorded. [Update 20 November 2025: Well, one of them. The other will probably get done by Sunday evening.]

On Friday I’ll produce The Weekly Cybers newsletter as usual, and Saturday will be yet another day down in Sydney, assisting with the apartment hunting.

Further Ahead

  • NEW: A certain corporate Christmas party which I’ll tell you about next week, Sydney, 25 November 2025. Yes, it’s a full month before Christmas, but these days you’ve got to get in quick. I’ll be making a day trip to Sydney for this one because it will be important for “professional” networking.
  • The 9pm Edict recording with digital rights enthusiast Justin Warren, who’s been on the pod before, 27 November 2025. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 10am AEDT that day.
  • ATARASHII GAKKO!, Hordern Pavilion UNSW Roundhouse, Sydney, 4 December 2025. This Japanese group is well worth exploring. I’m not sure who I’m taking to this gig yet. Make me an offer. And to be clear, while I still haven’t decided on a co-conspirator for the night, I’ve have bought tickets.
  • Takashi Wakasugi Work In Progress, Factory Theatre, Sydney, 5 December 2025. He’s also doing a show on 6 December.
