I know nothing about cars. I don’t even know how to drive. So obviously my guest today is freelance motoring journalist and editor of The Redline, Peter Anderson — because a lot has been happening in the auto industry, right? I might learn something.
In this episode we talk about cars. Obviously. Especially about the gradual but inevitable shift to electric vehicles. There’s the rise of China’s auto manufacturing industry, and other countries too, and of course that man and his electric car company and his $1 trillion compensation package.
We also discuss contentment and what it means for us, as well as the joy of minimalism, and even bipolar II disorder.

[9 September 2024] Over the past few months, a narrative has developed in the media that electric car sales are slowing. As a regular on ABC Radio Sydney, talkback callers take every chance they can to tell me they saw a thing on Facebook where there are fields full of unsold electric cars in China. Well, there probably are. They’re probably waiting to be shipped somewhere to be actually sold. A huge number of EVs are made in China and by brands you probably don’t expect – Volvo, Polestar, BMW and Tesla are just four literally off the top of my head.
-
[11 November 2025] If you live in a big city, finding a charger for your electric vehicle (EV) isn’t hard. But drive a few hours in any direction and the story changes.

Data is sourced from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) report known as VFacts, the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC), as well as individual companies. This page will be updated as new data is released each month, and as new information comes to hand. It is designed to be a reference point for the industry and consumers alike.

You know, like, I think we may… we might may be able to give people a more… if somebody’s committed crime, a more humane form of containment of future crime, which is if you… you say, like, you now get a… you now get a free Optimus, and it’s just going to follow you around and stop you from doing crime. But other than that, you get to do anything. It’s just going to stop you from committing crime. That’s really it. You don’t have to put people in like prisons and stuff, I think.
-

Bipolar II is notoriously difficult to diagnose. Patients usually seek help when they are in a depressed state, or when their hypomanic symptoms manifest themselves in unwanted effects, such as high levels of anxiety, or the seeming inability to focus on tasks. Because many of the symptoms of hypomania are often mistaken for high functioning behavior or simply attributed to personality, patients are typically not aware of their hypomanic symptoms.
-
While we all experience mood changes in response to life’s events, some people’s moods fluctuate up and down much more than usual. People with bipolar disorder can have extreme moods of feeling really high, very active and euphoric (‘manic’); or feeling really low (‘depression’).
-

-
[7 November 2025] The same Chinese company that makes electric buses now under review in Denmark and Norway also has buses on Australian roads, sparking concern among cybersecurity experts. Norwegian transport operator Ruter published test results last week that showed bus-maker Yutong Group had access to buses' control systems for software updates and diagnostics on the model they tested.
