I now live in Campsie! That’s in Sydney’s inner south-west, and the photo above was the view from the balcony on my first morning here, which was Wednesday. So my week of Monday 16 to Sunday 22 March 2026 was mostly occupied with moving and unpacking — and there’s still quite a bit to go.
On Tuesday a truck with two cheerful Brazilian chaps delivered two-thirds of my stuff from storage, but the other third has gone missing. The storage company thought there were two so-called modules in their warehouse, but there must be three. Missing are a fridge, tumble dryer, coffee table, half of the bits of my bed, a bookshelf, and a bunch other stuff including a very nice Aeron Chair. And my desk and another furniture item have been damaged to the point of uselessness.
An investigation has been launched, but at the time of writing there’s been no progress in finding The Lost Module. With no fridge I’m having to eat out all the time, which in multicultural Campsie isn’t really a burden — except on the wallet.
Meanwhile the crowdfunder I launched six weeks ago, The 9pm Stilgherrian’s Dramatic Decamp to Campsie, is now 86% of the way to its second target. Thank you all so much.
I’ll post a more detailed update there later today, including some comments on how the actual costs are matching my estimates,
Podcasts
- I’ve uploaded the fifth full episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast to Mixcloud. All of the existing episodes are already on YouTube. I have said that we plan to resume recording new episodes in March. There’s only one week left so I should probably organise that with Snarky Platypus.
- There’s still three special-guest episodes of The 9pm Edict in the edit queue. They will all appear in due course, of course.
Articles
- The Weekly Cybers #108. Vibes-polling reckons the teen social media ban works, Meta closes down the Metaverse (or not), AI giants are hiring chemical warfare experts, and much more.
Videos
- The Great Unboxening | 01, livestreamed on Tuesday night.
Photos, Media Appearances, Corporate Largesse
None of these. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos appear and when livestreams are scheduled.
Some Interesting Links
- I stumbled across this delightful Thai pop song, มีเพลงจะร้องให้ฟัง l โต๋เหน่อ x ปอนนิพนธ์. Translation: I have a song to sing for you | Tor Nho x Pon Niphon. Cool video too.
- Some great research this. “Those who ‘circle back’ and ‘synergize’ also tend to be crap at their jobs,” reports The Register. “Employees who rate this sort of language as insightful are more likely to struggle with analytical thinking and workplace decision-making.”
- People have been asking me how I’ve been cataloguing my books after unboxing them. I’m using LibraryThing.
- Have I run this one before? How Elon Musk’s Sci-Fi Hyperloop Failed. Tl;dr: They had absolutely no idea what they were doing.
- This week’s suggested follow: It’s another YouTube channel this week, Building Beautifully by Sharath. “Follow me as I discover Sydney, one story at a time. My focus is primarily on planning decisions over the past 50 years that have shaped our great city, for worse or for better. Watch my channel for reviews of the plannings of different suburbs across Sydney, for stories about railways and freeways lost.” He’s a personable young man with a dry sense of humour.
The Week Ahead
The busy month of March continues, and this week I’m continuing to take things out of boxes and organise getting rid of most of it. This means I really should schedule another livestream in The Great Unboxening, but I’ll get to that. Maybe Thursday night?
In between all that I’ll need to get at least a handful of billable hours done, and I hope to squeeze out at least one podcast.
On Wednesday it’s Snarky Platypus’s turn to move to Campsie, so I’m hoping that by then I’ll have sorted out all of my stuff — at least to the extent that I can cook a welcoming dinner.
On Thursday I’ll post a new episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast. Well, new to you. We recorded it back in late November 2025 as a lead-in to summer — and then our hosting provider vanished! Still, it’s a new set of tunes and our usual commentary.
Friday sees The Weekly Cybers newsletter as usual, and at this stage the weekend is unplanned.
Further Ahead
- He Huang’s TEMU Joke Factory, Sydney, 3 May 2026. Long-time readers will know that I’ve been really enjoying her comedy in recent years.
- Takashi Wakasugi’s Wabi-Sabi Comedy, Sydney, 16 May 2026. I saw Takashi’s work-in-progress show back in December, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all comes together.
