Spaceport America, the world’s first commercial spaceport, is being built in New Mexico for Virgin Galactic. Who else would you choose to design it other than Foster+Partners — follow the link for more piccies. Thanks to Wired for the pointer.
Given all the announcements of a spaceport in Australia, a shame it’s not somewhere like Cairns. Or Uluru. 😉
Bonus space link: Arthur C Clarke on the 50th anniversary of Sputnik.
Far out! Spectacular even though not over the top.
I’ve just realised why Spaceport America looks so familiar. It’s the flying submarine FS-1 fromVoyage to the Bottom of the Sea , shown here as an “artist’s impression”:
Or check out the fan art of FS-1.
Or maybe it’s the Spindrift from Land of the Giants, as shown in this classy photo:
Which is more disturbing: That our first space passengers will get there courtesy of Richard Branson, or that you’ll pass thru a spaceport that looks like something from an Irwin Allen production?
I just watched my Land of the Giants dvd and the main section of the spaceport looks like the Spindrift. Very cool design. I also think the spaceport looks like a futuristic vehilce. It would have been nice if this was being built in Australia.
I like the Deanna Lund one of her holding the Spindrift cos it looks like she was the one who ate one of Genius’ groth pills instead of Fitzhugh.
