I gained a certain reputation one night when I woke to the sound of gunfire — and then muttered “Oh, it’s next door,” before nonchalantly falling asleep again. But I don’t think even I could sleep through a gunshot wound to the head!
Introducing: Nosefrida
Thanks to BoingBoing I can tell you about the Nosefrida… “A suction straw for clearing snot out of your kids’ nostrils. Put the rubber hose up your kid’s nose, then suck on the other end (keep track of which end you use for what). A filter stops the gunk and germs from ending up in your mouth.”
Of course the really, really evil part of me wants to start a competition…
How else could the Nosefrida be used in your life? Or someone else’s life, for that matter.
Please post your suggestions in the comments, and at the end of May I’ll give some sort of lame prize to whomever I judge the winner.
100 Random Thoughts
It’s been a while since my last essay. I want to write something substantial tonight. But I can’t choose, and I’m too tired! So here’s 100 Random Thoughts, in order. An essay of some kind, perhaps…?
The Secret: shite
I half-caught The Chaser doing a review of The Secret just now, that book-DVD-magic-answer-to-everything phenomenon. To put it bluntly, if you believe that simplistic slogan-driven trite will suddenly solve all of your problems for you, you’re an idiot. The world is complicated. And you need to make an effort.
Anthony Callea: “Young Boys not My Weakness”
Scene: The Logies After-Party. Kate Ceberano starts singing. Anthony Callea, who recently “revealed” he was gay, shyly declines to join her in a rendition of Young Boys Are My Weakness. And fair enough. Everyone knows that Anthony’s real weakness is stocky, heavily-tattooed Latvian leather daddies. Actually I just made that up. But it’ll be interesting to see how far the rumour spreads. [Update: And if you read the comments, you’ll see that’s not the only part which was “made up”.]
