@lebard And what is the tide of change which Qantas is futilely resisting? This is the essence of “Cnut of the Week”. http://is.gd/8fGQ

@amyderby No, everyone on the planet who’s not American also doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, i.e. 96+%… ;)

@trib Clive Hamilton’s rant is a weird juxtaposition to ANYTHING!

Errand to King St, Newtown, and absorbing some sunlight… it’s for the Vitamin D, you know.

@Matt_Tulk I don’t mind the PM being overseas and engaging with the world, actually. Australia needs friends and markets.

@mspecht @warrenduff Hey don’t blame me! :) The dog just started following me and I remembered the pets’ names.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to warrenduff

Wow, @KevinRuddPM has created Twitter accounts for his pets @JasperTheCat and @AbigailTheDog!

@jeamland Clive Hamilton’s “Net p-rn goes way beyond naughty” in Crikey. http://is.gd/8e1E What a rant! Dunno whether I’ll get to respond.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jeamland

@ecoknowgrapher I’m kinda looking forward to “Anathem”, but… Big Fat Books seem to be the style and sometimes I get bogged down. :)

@katska Wikipedia on Diamond Age: “… currently no scheduled release date but as of September 2008 the project was still in development”.

How do you get Teh Internetz to work in Space, with long transmissions delays? Interesting linkage. http://is.gd/8dEg

@cameronreilly I read “Snow Crash” too long ago to remember what it was like, alas.

@oliyoung “Cryptonomicon” was the best novel, I reckon. His “Mother Earth Mother Board” feature for “Wired” was superb. http://is.gd/1cve

@ocean I’ve enjoyed most Stephenson I’ve read, but the Baroque trilogy was a bit of a plod. I wanted him to get to the goddam point.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to ocean

@vealmince Yes, he seems to include every fact and idea he’s read since the previous book.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to vealmince

@oliyoung @ssharwood My only concern is Stephenson’s tendency to write as if paid by the kilogram.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to oliyoung

just bougit Neal Stephenson’s “Anathem” and wondering if I’ve made a big mistake.

@PeterBlackQUT Thanks. I did my own response to Hamilton at http://is.gd/8kXZ but it’s jumbled with Qantas stuff.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to peterjblack

I am reliably informed that Crikey is “more than adequately covered” in providing responses to Clive Hamilton’s piece. http://is.gd/8e1E

@Tuna Agreed re the “yes men”. Conroy faces a difficult talk in unravelling the mess. And it’s not the only mess he has to deal with.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to Tuna

@Tuna I agree, Conroy desperately needs a political exit strategy. But doesn’t he already have a bunch of people to do that for him?
