Pleased that my test migration of a non-critical account went smoothly. It means midnight to 6am will be a long shift, but easy.

@stewdio_org I’m sorry, when I said 10 minutes I meant it. I have already deployed the server alas. Thank you though.

via TweetDeck in reply to stewd_io

I am now officially impressed with @linode’s DNS manager. Thanks for the tip, @jdub @duncm

via TweetDeck

@sdotsen I’m sorry, when I said 10 minutes I meant it. I have already deployed the server alas. Thank you though.

@jonoabroad I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick about what I’m doing. I am busy now but can explain later if you’re curious.

via TweetDeck in reply to jonoabroad

@Colvinius You’re not the first to suggest arseh.at should be reserved for actual arsehats, but I’m too lazy to change it.

via TweetDeck in reply to Colvinius

There were several cheats, it seems.

Sir Charles Todd KCMG, 1826-1910, astronomer, telegrapher and South Australia’s Superintendent of Telegraphs http://arseh.at/cm

via TweetDeck

Yes @jezford that image name charlestodd_normal.jpg is a bit of a giveaway, yes. ;)

via TweetDeck

Well, mid-19th century I’d say, @Mddasilva, but yes and a few other people have mentioned the word “telegraph”.

via TweetDeck

RT @hortovanyi: It’s an old git from the 18th Century, [No, actually.]

via TweetDeck

I don’t think anyone has spotted who my avatar is at the moment, by the way. He shall remain until someone works it out.

via TweetDeck

@Gibbot5000 Thank you. This kind of migration is old hat for me, but it’s annoying sensate work. Still, has to be done.

via TweetDeck in reply to Gibbot5000

@daev Nah, I am happy without music. I hardly listen to any music at all these days. I prefer to hear the world around me.

via TweetDeck in reply to daev

@garystark It’s a cPanel/WHM server, so in fact beyond gzip and scp we have pkgacct and restorepkg. Easy, but a long night.

via TweetDeck in reply to garystark

Does anyone happen to have a Linode referral code they wish to feel good about? In the next 10 mins.

Preparing for my night of geekwork: setting up new secondary DNS and migrating ~65 domains to a new hosting server.

via TweetDeck

Home. Laughing.

via TweetDeck

Mobile: Enmore Rd; King St; gym; a modest meal, exhibiting self-restraint; eventually back home for the night’s work.

via TweetDeck

@hortovanyi Yep, severe headaches is a typical caffeine withdrawal symptom. It’s a nasty addictive alkaloid.

via TweetDeck in reply to hortovanyi

More evidence that coffee-induced caffeine addition addles the brain. http://arseh.at/ci

@trentg85 Thanks, freedns.afraid.org looks promising, but given that I need a Linode account or similar anyway that’s the path I’ll take.

via TweetDeck in reply to trentg85

For my secondary DNS, I will go the Linode option. I need a staging server anyway, and I’ll get free DNS as part of the equation.

via TweetDeck

Anyone had experience with EveryDNS.net? Free, but they ignore DNS SOA and poll hourly regardless.

via TweetDeck

@tremble_com_au Alas DNS Park for secondaries at $4 per domain, 110 domains, is USD 440 up front. I can get a Linode for $20 a month.

via TweetDeck in reply to tremble_com_au

I hope has says yes too.

via TweetDeck

@TurnbullMalcolm I do stuff for Crikey and ABC Unleashed too, of course, but you’ll have heard of them. :)

via TweetDeck in reply to TurnbullMalcolm

@TurnbullMalcolm Hi, “Patch Monday” is a weekly podcast for ZDNet Australia. Has covered NBN a bunch. Geeky audience. http://arseh.at/ch

via TweetDeck in reply to TurnbullMalcolm

@jdub Oh! I need to set up a Linode account for another purpose anyway. Their self-managed secondaries sounds like a good possibility then.

via TweetDeck in reply to jdub

I should know @TurnbullMalcolm’s media advisor but I’ve given up asking the Liberals to put me on their mailing list. Seems to defeat them.

via TweetDeck

Well, I’ve emailed @TurnbullMalcolm at his APH address, but I know he watches Twitter too so maybe he has some time free. We’ll see.

via TweetDeck

Hey @TurnbullMalcolm, since I’ve had a bit of a go at you recently, would you be up for an interview for “Patch Monday” some time tomorrow?

via TweetDeck

Hmmm… I haven’t recorded a single thing for the “Patch Monday” podcast either. This will be an interesting weekend.

via TweetDeck

@Mikenicholls88 I think the entrepreneur-as-hero thing died following the excesses of the 1980s, maybe earlier?

via TweetDeck in reply to Mikenicholls88

@adavid I don’t know French very well either, but yes the sign might perhaps be in either French or English, not that mess.

via TweetDeck in reply to adavid

In amongst the obvious party-hack trolls, there’s some good comments on my “NBN: too bold for timid Australia?” Pleased. http://arseh.at/b0

New blog post: “Weekly Wrap 16” http://arseh.at/cb

via TweetDeck

Looking back at last weekend’s snapshots, this shop sign still amuses me. http://flic.kr/p/8C5NGR

via TweetDeck

@TunaCrust Yes, a passing mention on Twitter of an interesting gap is delusional. You’re clearly a superior person. FFS get over yourself.

via TweetDeck

@SnarkyPlatypus “Le monde se porterait mieux si elle était alimentée par de la vapeur”? Oui. Oui, il le ferait. http://arseh.at/c9

via TweetDeck in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

Gosh, @TunaCrust, or I could even do what I am actually doing, which is BOTH those things. Lame binary thinking FTL.

via TweetDeck

@SnarkyPlatypus Bonjour. Il a été peu de sommeil, et beaucoup de complications techniques. Ce week-end est difficile. Et vous?

via TweetDeck in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

How lame! Yahoo! Maps in Flickr doesn’t have Bexley North railway station marked as a station. Bzzzt! Thank you for playing.

via TweetDeck

Sat plan: Re-plan this hosting migration process and test the revised process; with luck, gym and dinner.

via TweetDeck

@drueyjay I’d also never use ZoneEdit because it’s pig-ugly and inspires about as much confidence as a pig in a halal butchery.

via TweetDeck in reply to drueyjay

@evenhanded Setting up a new secondary DNS is quicker for me than coordinating 50 to 100 change requests via support tickets.

via TweetDeck in reply to evenhanded

Yes, secondaries once set up stay put. But this is part of a migration, the very time every one needs touching.

via TweetDeck

Hah, @servepath! That’s the rapid service I’m come to expect from ServePath these last N years! Sure, will pop you an email.

via TweetDeck

@BZB I am mid-way thru a 6-hour block of server migration tasks. It goes well.

via TweetDeck in reply to BZB

That’s one-third of tonight’s migration batch done in under two hours. We’re on time. Four hours to go.

via TweetDeck

@MikeFitzAU Yeah the SEO wankery is still. A domain name for every fiddly aspect of your business? So fiddly to maintain.

via TweetDeck in reply to MikeFitzAU

Noticing how many tiny businesses over-complicate their internet presence with a bazillion domain names.

via TweetDeck

I should re-pimp @ApostrophePong’s prize-winning short film http://arseh.at/7e and encourage people to support the next http://arseh.at/7f

via TweetDeck

@sdotsen Thanks. I know not everyone’s watching Twitter closely, but I didn’t know there were referrals until I was registering. Deadlines!
