@RealNickHodge Indeed, I just had to bring forward the new purchase that was planned for March. Sadly I miss the 2nd Generation Intel Core.

@RealNickHodge Oh you may have missed the news this morning. The motherboard died. Farting about with repairs or 2nd hand chews time, money.

@jplonie I had a backup from the night before, but yes I’ll be able to get the data off the drive as soon as I get a correct screwdriver.

But don’t be jealous, @jkerrison, this was a completely unscheduled expenditure. Annoying.

It was 3.5 years old, @dobes @jkerrison, but very bashed and dented. Motherboard faults were being signalled, as it were.

The dead MacBook Pro has been replaced with a nice new one. It even has working “9” and “delete” keys.

Transferring information…

Thanks for all the advice, folks, but this 3.5yo MBP is based around so much it’s easier to bring forward my new purchase.

@nzJayZee @moldor All that stuff has been done, alas.

@moldor Dead dead. If it were just the screen, we’d hear the HDD clatter as the OS loaded.

Does anyone want to give me a new MacBook Pro? No?

@iain_chalmers I’m currently considering the possibilities for doing my new computer purchase now rather than Feb/Mar.

via TweetDeck in reply to iain_chalmers

@iain_chalmers No, there’s no display, no clattering HDD boot. No nuffink. Just power to components.

RT @anaglyph It’s a bit early to start drinking, I guess. [What sort of dart statement is that?]

@R_Chirgwin The symptom is nothing upon power-up ‘cept HDD spin. Diagnosis: dead motherboard.
