My week of Monday 4 to Sunday 10 May 2026 finally saw the start of The 9pm Edict‘s mid-2026 series, although Another Untitled Music Podcast has yet to return. Soon, though. I’m also starting to notice the wildlife of Campsie and their patterns of activity.
Thank you to everyone who came to my birthday drinks or sent greetings on the line. Much appreciated.
Updating the crowdfunder, all I want to say is that it’s crept up to 67% of the third target, thank you, and that there’s still no progress in finding The Lost Module. There will be a significant update on Monday or Tuesday.
Podcasts
- The 9pm David Attenborough from 1984, being an interview with him that I recorded back in 1984, and which I turned into an episode of The 9pm Edict on Sunday. There’s also a transcript.
Articles
- The Weekly Cybers #116. Richard Dawkins falls for an AI chatbot; China bans workers being sacked when AI takes their jobs (kinda); Apple sued for £3 billion, and much more.
Videos
- The Great Unboxening | 04, livestreamed on Thursday night. It was all about the DVDs and CDs up for grabs, but don’t forget all the vinyl records for sale and all the books which are still up for grabs. Please check out the lists and make an offer! Starting this coming Monday I’ll be posting everything to Gumtree or eBay or Discogs or wherever is appropriate.
Photos, Media Appearances, Corporate Largesse
None of these. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos appear and when livestreams are scheduled — like the one coming up on Thursday night.
Some Interesting Links
- Some more Ukrainian propaganda, but in this case it’s in a mainstream news story: Inside The Old Skydiving Plane Hunting Drones in Ukraine.
- On Friday I live-posted my attempt to win the meat raffle at a local pub.
- Please enjoy a 24-hour livestream of a puffin colony in the Farne Islands, courtesy of the National Trust.
- Please also enjoy this educational film from 1952, Train Trip to Adelaide (from Murray Bridge).
- From Alasdair Beckett-King, Every Guy In A Videogame.
- This week’s suggested follow: I’ve cut back the number of “serious” podcasts I listen to, but one that stays on the list is The Arms Control Wonk Podcast, presented by two guys who are experts in nuclear weapons, arms control, disarmament, and nonproliferation with occasional similarly insightful guests. It isn’t published as frequently as it used to be, but it’s worth listening to when it does appear.
The Week Ahead
Monday is a day of chores and client comms and administrivia and whatever other small tasks I can knock off.
On Tuesday I’ll be at home coordinating various visitors, including a tradie to make some modifications to the apartment and a delivery of furniture for Snarky Platypus.
NEW: On Wednesday I’m recording The 9pm Edict podcast with journalist Erin Cook, our South-East Asia specialist who’s been on the pod many times before. If you’re a supporter with TRIGGER WORDS or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 8pm AEST this Tuesday 12 May.
Thursday night will see another livestream in The Great Unboxening at 8pm AEST, this time focusing on everything else that’s left before it all gets posted on Gumtree or eBay or whatever.
[Update 14 May 2026: I’m postponing this livestream until next Tuesday for reasons which I’ll explain another time.]
The Weekly Cybers newsletter will appear as usual on Friday afternoon.
NEW: On Friday evening I’m recording an Edict with Scottish author and social researcher David F Porteous, who’s also been on the pod many times before. If you’re a supporter with TRIGGER WORDS or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 9pm AEST this Thursday 14 May. The finished episode will be posted early next week.
[Update 15 May 2026: I’m also pushing this back a week. Sorry.]
On Saturday I’ll be editing a podcast, and in the evening I’m going to Takashi Wakasugi’s Wabi-Sabi Comedy. I saw Takashi’s work-in-progress show back in December, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all comes together.
Further Ahead
Oh dear, I need to lock in a few new things!
- RESCHEDULED: The 9pm Edict with Scottish author and social researcher David F Porteous, 22 May 2026. He’s been on the pod many times before. If you’re a supporter with TRIGGER WORDS or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 9pm AEST in Thursday 21 May.
