[18 February 2022] Hundreds of people who had retinal implants to improve their sight face an uncertain future as the technology they rely on is now obsolete. Second Sight stopped making its Argus II bionic eyes several years ago to focus on a brain implant instead.

[12 July 2024] That is despite issues with the first recipient, 29-year-old Noland Arbaugh, who received the chip in January. Initially, Neuralink said that his implant had gone “extremely well”, and the company said he was using it to play games among other tasks. In the week after the implant was completed, however, some of the 64 “threads” that are implanted into the brain have disconnected. The company has considered removing the implant from his brain, according to reports.

[21 October 2011] The wireless hacking of a medical device, first demonstrated at the Black Hat 2011 conference in August, has been taken a step further. An insulin pump has been hacked and instructed to deliver a lethal dose without first knowing the device's ID number.

Barnaby Michael Douglas Jack (22 November 1977 – 25 July 2013) was a New Zealand hacker, programmer and computer security expert. He was known for his presentation at the Black Hat computer security conference in 2010, during which he exploited two ATMs and made them dispense fake paper currency on the stage. Among his other most notable works were the exploitation of various medical devices, including pacemakers and insulin pumps.

[18 May 2019] Tony Abbott has conceded defeat in the seat of Warringah to independent Zali Steggall, revealing he feared his political career was over months ago but saying he "would rather be a loser than a quitter". With almost 50 per cent of the ballots counted, Ms Steggall's primary vote was 45.3 per cent — enough for her to claim a comfortable victory.

Teal independents, simply known as teals and also called community independents, are a loosely-aligned group of centrist, independent or minor party politicians in Australian politics. They have been characterised as strongly advocating for increased action to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions along with improved political integrity and accountability. They also generally share socially liberal outlooks, including on issues such as LGBT rights, and have harnessed grassroots campaigning to achieve strong swings towards them.

[10 July 2024] The 2024 General Election media campaign has been dominated by talk of taxation, the electoral process, scandal and sleaze. The Conservative’s contested claim that Labour’s taxation plans would cost families £2,000 rumbled on in the media, as did Sunak’s early D-Day departure. The focus on these topics has been at the expense of other key areas that many would consider to be of public concern - such as the NHS, housing, the environment and social care.

[13 July 2024] Thousands of prisoners will be released early at the start of September, the justice secretary has announced. Shabana Mahmood warned of the "total collapse" of the prison system and a "total breakdown of law and order" without urgent action to ease prison overcrowding. She accused Rishi Sunak and the previous Conservative government of a "disgraceful dereliction of duty" for not dealing with the crisis when they were in power.

[24 June 2024] Introduced in April, The Criminal Code Amendment (Protecting Commonwealth Frontline Workers) Bill 2024 will increase the penalties from a maximum of 10 years to 13 years’ imprisonment for conduct that causes harm to a Commonwealth frontline worker, and from a maximum of seven years to nine years for conduct that threatens to cause serious harm. This means the maximum penalty for assaulting a Services Australia worker would equal the penalty for assaulting a law enforcement or judicial officer.

[7 July 2024] The Labour leader said he would end the "gimmick" of deporting migrants arriving in the UK illegally to Rwanda, which was established by the previous Conservative government. Labour campaigned on a manifesto pledge to scrap the scheme, which has already cost around £310m, promising a more effective approach to tackling illegal immigration to replace it.

[27 June 2024] The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has been called out for ethical misdeeds and failure to stick to the standards of procurement rules, following an inquiry by the parliamentary joint committee of public accounts and audit. The committee also lashed the NDIA for “clear breaches” of its gifts and hospitality policy with customer-relationship-management software company Salesforce over almost five years.

Time Trumpet is a six-episode satirical television comedy series which aired on BBC Two in August 2006. The series was written by Armando Iannucci, Roger Drew and Will Smith in a similar manner to Iannucci's earlier one-off programmes, "2004: The Stupid Version" and "Clinton: His Struggle with Dirt".... Time Trumpet is set in the year 2031, and is a retrospective documentary on the first thirty years of the 21st century. Actors and actresses play the parts of 'today's stars' thirty years on, who are interviewed as part of the show.

Thousands of “Daily Show” clips remain free to watch on YouTube, but those go back only to 2015.
