My week of Monday 2 to Sunday 8 March 2026 wasn’t as busy as it was meant to be, thanks to more fatigue than usual. Still, I recorded a podcast, did some billable work, and locked in some more of the house-moving logistics.
At the time of writing, the Great Western Highway is completely closed at Victoria Pass due to damage at Mitchell’s Causeway. Amusingly, or maybe not so amusingly, I’d also decided to post a photo of the rebuilding of Railway Parade at Wentworth Falls, finally fixing years of damage — much of It down to La Niña and climate change. Perhaps it’s a road to my future.
That’s terribly corny. Sorry.
Anyway, the crowdfunder I launched four weeks ago to cover my moving costs has not yet been updated as promised — was it an actual promise? — though as I write this I reckon it’ll be updated by the end of the day.
The thingy below is the GoFundMe widget for The 9pm Stilgherrian’s Dramatic Decamp to Campsie. It may still show the initial target of $5,000, which has been reached. Or it may show an updated version, depending on when you look at it. Please consider.
I may well update all that text rather than wait until Sunday. But all is chaos.
Podcasts
- I’ve uploaded the third full episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast to Mixcloud. All of the existing episodes are already on YouTube. We still plan to resume recording new episodes in March.
- On Friday I recorded an episode of The 9pm Edict with David F Porteous, but it has not yet been posted.
Articles
- The Weekly Cybers #107. Government dumps its unpopular FoI reforms, Jim’s Group’s AI goes rogue, AI companies battle it out in tough talks with the Pentagon, and much more.
Media Appearances
- The papers I wrote for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Encryption Debate in Australia (2019) and The Encryption Debate in Australia: 2021 Update (2021, obviously), were cited in the paper Security Is Not Enough (PDF). I’m always so pleased when my writing is cited by others. And, quite frankly, they were damn good papers.
Photos, Videos, Corporate Largesse
None of these. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos appear and when livestreams are scheduled. And there will be one very soon!
Some Interesting Links
- This week’s episode of Armando Iannucci’s Strong Message Here is particularly good.
- Brand new from Hokkaido’s own SHOW-GO, his second release in a very short time: Ocean Voices (Beatbox).
- Compare it with Britain’s Eurovision entry this year, Eins, Zwei, Drei by Look Mum No Computer.
- This week’s suggested follow: Train of Thought, a YouTube channel which presents a weekly short video about railway history, “from technical trivia to funny footnotes”.
The Week Ahead
The busy month of March continues. This week things really ramp up, and as I check this before pressing “Publish” I can already see that some podcast episodes may need to slide back a little— and that it’s Monday and I’m already well behind schedule.
On Monday I’ll edit that podcast with David Porteous, as well as work on some of the moving-house logistics, although the podcast won’t be posted until Wednesday.
On Tuesday I’m heading down to Sydney for the one-month checkup after being injected with an experimental vaccine, or maybe the placebo. Full details were posted the other week. There’s also some podcast pre-production to do, and I might as well get an eye test while I’m down there.
Wednesday is a podcast recording day. A big one.
In the morning I’m recording an episode of the Edict with Johanna Weaver and Zoe Hawkins from the Tech Policy Design Institute. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 2pm AEDT this Tuesday 10 March.
The finished podcast will be posted next week some time.
In the evening I’m recording with Dr Alice Gorman and Rami Mandow. This will be another space-oriented episode, originally timed to coincide with NASA’s Artemis II mission, although that’s now delayed until at least April, and the program as a whole has been delayed even further. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 8pm AEDT on Tuesday 10 March.
The finished episode will be posted on Thursday, when I’ll also post another old episode of AUMP to Mixcloud.
Friday sees The Weekly Cybers newsletter as usual. The weekend is currently unplanned, but it might include a trip down to Sydney for various logistical purposes.
Further Ahead
- The big moving day, 17 March 2026. A household’s worth of stuff is extracted from storage where it’s been sitting for 15 years and delivered to the new apartment — and that’s when I start habitation there and start digging through the boxes.
- NEW: Launch of The Great Unboxening, 17 March 2026 (TBC). With all the stuff out of storage and piled into the apartment, this evening I’ll probably do a brief livestream to give an indication of the kinds of things which might become available. Or I might just post a bunch of photos. Weirdly, the livestream is probably less work overall.
- CONFIRMED: Final evacuation from the Blue Mountains, 22 March 2026. Yes, we’ll drive up to Wentworth Falls, grab the few boxes of stuff and bags of clothing that have allowed me to survive there, and return to Sydney.
- CONFIRMED: Takashi Wakasugi’s Wabi-Sabi Comedy, Sydney, 16 May 2026. I saw Takashi’s work-in-progress show back in December, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all comes together.
