My week of Monday 23 February to Sunday 1 March 2026 was disrupted by an unexpected need to be somewhere other than the Blue Mountains. I chose Sydney, and specifically Bankstown. All that went well, and I got a lot of planning done, but there’s little new to show you — except a successful first stage of the crowdfunder.
As you may well know by now, because I explained it three weeks ago and every week since, I’m moving from Wentworth Falls in the the Blue Mountains to Campsie in Sydney in the second half of March, after having been in the Mountains for more than 15 years.
I am very pleased to report that my crowdfunder, The 9pm Stilgherrian’s Dramatic Decamp to Campsie, has reached its initial target. My core moving costs are now covered, thank you all!
And I’m very pleased to report that certain key dates have been set. All my stuff in storage will be extracted and delivered on 17 March, and I’ll be based in Campsie from that date. I’ll move the remnants of my Blue Mountains stuff on the weekend of 21–22 March, depending on the availability of a driver.
I’ll be setting a second target for the crowdfunder — I’ll do that on Monday — because there’s still some costs that need covering, and this embedded widget thingy will be automatically updated when I do that.
Podcasts
- I’ve uploaded the second full episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast to Mixcloud. All of the existing episodes are already on YouTube. We still plan to resume recording new episodes in March.
Articles
- The Weekly Cybers #106. AI chatbots are driving people crazy, Wikipedia blacklists a major archive site, almost 100 Australian businesses have paid of cyber ransoms in just eight months, and much more.
Photos, Videos, Media Appearances, Corporate Largesse
None of these. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos appear and when livestreams are scheduled.
Some Interesting Links
- New from Hokkaido’s very own SHOW-GO: Polaris (Beatbox). I was wondering why he was so wrapped up in layers of clothing when usually he’s usually very fashionable, but then I realised. Hokkaido. Winter. Single-glazed windows and light construction.
- “The experimental artist called Look Mum No Computer has been internally selected to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026,” which is interesting. I love his work and enthusiasm and pro-experimental give-it-a-go attitude, but is his material Eurovision-winning style?
- If you would like a 4K restoration of Space: 1999 then you may soon be in luck.
- Even older people way remember Stewart Brand’s Whole Earth Catalog. Well, there’s now a searchable archive.
- This week’s suggested follow: French YouTube channel L’atelier de Musique. “Weekly mixes on vinyl that will transport you to different genres, countries, eras, and inspire new discoveries!”
The Week Ahead
The busy month of March begins.
Monday is about planning and administrivia yet again, and I have to lock in some billable hours for this month. I do have a project to get into, but I need to sort out signs-offs first.
On Tuesday I’m heading down to Sydney to join Snarky Platypus for a detailed inspection of the Campsie apartment. Settlement isn’t until 13 March, but this will give us the chance to make more detailed plans. And we’re meeting afterwards to make those plans. I’ll also record some more personal bits and pieces for a solo podcast.
Wednesday is being kept free for potential podcast work or whatever else needs doing. Maybe even some billable work!
On Thursday I’ll post yet another old episode of AUMP to Mixcloud. Friday sees The Weekly Cybers newsletter as usual. It’s good to be settling into a regular pattern, particularly as a way to end the working week.
NEW: On Friday night I’m recording an episode of The 9pm Edict with the lovely David F Porteous, Scottish author and social researcher. He’s been on lots before. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 8pm AEDT this Thursday 5 March. The finished episode will be posted on Sunday morning.
And the weekend? On Saturday I’ll start sorting out what will come down to Campsie with me, and what will be disposed of in some way. And on Sunday I’m heading to Sydney for lunch with friends. I’m looking forward to it.
Further Ahead
- Sydney Day, 10 March 2026. I’m heading down for the one-month checkup after I was given an experimental vaccine, or maybe the placebo. Full details were posted the other week.
- The 9pm Edict recording with Johanna Weaver and Zoe Hawkins from the Tech Policy Design Institute, 11 March 2026. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 2pm AEDT on Tuesday 10 March. The finished podcast will be posted the following week.
- CONFIRMED: The 9pm Edict recording with Dr Alice Gorman and Rami Mandow, 11 March 2026. This will be another space-oriented episode, originally timed to coincide with NASA’s Artemis II mission, although that’s now delayed until at least April, and the program as a whole has been delayed even further. If you’re a supporter with a TRIGGER WORD or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please let me know by 8pm AEDT on Tuesday 10 March. The finished episode will be posted the following night.
- CONFIRMED: The big moving day, 17 March 2026. This is when a household’s worth of stuff is extracted from storage and delivered to the new apartment, and it’s when I start habitation there.
- NEW: Final evacuation from the Blue Mountains, 21–22 March 2026.
- Takashi Wakasugi’s Wabi-Sabi Comedy, Sydney, 16 May 2026 (TBC). I saw Takashi’s work-in-progress show back in December, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all comes together.
[Photo: The view from a window of the Bankstown Hotel, photographed on 25 February 2026. The view would be better from one of the front rooms. Obviously. I’m moving to Campsie, not Bankstown, but they’re in the same local government area. Bankstown is lovely.]
