Monday 30 March to Sunday 5 April 2026 was productive week. also relaxing, and indicative of how my move back to Sydney is evolving. I am happy.
I’ve definitely started being more productive and more active in the “new” apartment in Campsie, and it’s only been a few weeks. That’s even with three days being allocated to the Easter weekend and another holiday tomorrow. Yes, I am much happier here.
There’s still no progress in finding The Lost Module, however.
Meanwhile the crowdfunder I launched eight weeks ago, The 9pm Stilgherrian’s Dramatic Decamp to Campsie, has plateaued at 95% of its second target. That’s fine, because I need to clarify what my next steps are, and they in turn will depend on whether The Lost Module is ever found. I have a process in mind for this: setting a deadline for when the storage company has to declare it lost and we start a different kind of conversation. There will be more on that next week.
So for now, well, here’s the GoFundMe widget, which updates in real time. I’ll send supporters a more detailed update tomorrow.
Podcasts
- The 9pm Artemis II and the Space Cockroaches with Dr Alice Gorman and Rami Mandow, recorded back on 11 March and posted this Wednesday.
- I posted an episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast to Mixcloud. AUMP 00007: Sunday Singles 1 is a compilation of all four Sunday Single episodes which have been produced so far, from back in November 2025, because Mixcloud requires a minimum episode length of 15 minutes. All episodes are also on YouTube.
- There’s still one more special-guest episode of The 9pm Edict in the edit queue. It will appear next week.
Articles
- The Weekly Cybers #111. Big tech is “taking the piss”, says minister, as two-thirds of under-16s still on the socials; draft Children’s Online Privacy Code released; Mark Zuckerberg’s makeover backfires; and more.
Videos, Photos, Media Appearances, Corporate Largesse
None of these. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos appear and when livestreams are scheduled.
Some Interesting Links
- I have stumbled across a new series from TV Tokyo, Solitary Gourmet. “[It’s] about a businessman who travels all over Tokyo for work. This is a drama series that depicts a man quietly touring the town’s restaurants alone. There is no flashy story development or narration. He just quietly enjoys his meal.” And it’s wonderful. I’ve also noted that in some places it’s labelled Solitary Groumet. Since it’s happened so frequently I’m wondering whether this is a gag rather than a mistake, because the comedy is dry.
- Thursday was the 15th birthday of Nyan Cat. Watch it now.
- From the National Film and Sound Archive, Australian Colour Diary | Danish Gymnastics Team Tours Australia (1957). How times have changed.
- Channel 4 has a new series of 15-minute shows, Train-ing It with Joe Wilkinson, in which the comedian interviews people he likes, on a train. The first episode is with Welsh actor Michael Sheen.
- From Dr Alice Gorman, “Since the toilets on Orion are a continuing topic of fascination, here’s a thread about space toilets”.
- Just watch this.
- This week’s suggested follow: Today it’s a BBC podcast, Evil Genius, in which comedian Russell Kane discusses various heroes and villains in history and forces a panel of three to make a strictly binary choice: evil or genius? There’s also a sub-series called Evil Animals.
The Week Ahead
Monday is the public holiday for Easter Monday, but I’ll be doing a little more unpacking — mainly sorting out the bedroom a bit more — and finally starting to sort out my supporter database.
Tuesday will focus on client work.
On Wednesday I’m taking delivery of a new desk, because I can’t wait any longer. There’s only so long you can work at the dining table. Much of the day will be organising that new workstation.
[Update 9 April 2026: I misunderstood how council hard rubbish collections work in Canterbury-Bankstown. I had to cancel my booking for May, but I also discovered that our apartment block has one schedule for this Friday. It’s all very exciting. But this mans I’m having to reorganise a couple of things.]
On Thursday the weekend I’ll post the episode of the Edict that I recorded with Johanna Weaver and Zoe Hawkins from the Tech Policy Design Institute back on 11 March.
The Weekly Cybers newsletter will appear as usual on Friday.
And on the weekend Snarky Platypus and I will record a fresh episode of Another Untitled Music Podcast. I’ll also be making some decisions about how The Great Unboxening will work, if I haven’t already made them mid-week.
Further Ahead
- He Huang’s TEMU Joke Factory, Sydney, 3 May 2026. Long-time readers will know that I’ve been really enjoying her comedy in recent years.
NEW: Hard rubbish collection, 8 May 2026. This is a weird thing to tell you about, I know, but is now the symbolic end of The Great Unboxening project, when everything which hasn’t found a new home goes to the great landfill in the sky. Well, in Panania.- Takashi Wakasugi’s Wabi-Sabi Comedy, Sydney, 16 May 2026. I saw Takashi’s work-in-progress show back in December, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all comes together.
