@neerav @garthk Thanks for both articles, outside scope of immediate needs but will add them to the pot for later.
@deanlk I’d heard of the Naomi Klein Great Firewall piece but not read it. http://tinyurl.com/66r9z6 Ta. May link, but only have 400 words.
Writing about the Great Firewall of China. Fascinating stuff. Check this research on how it works: http://is.gd/19Gd
@andrewdotnich I am disturbed by your choices of what you do and don’t retweet from my world. ;)

@SnarkyPlatypus AFAIK, Ustream chats are not archived. And I keep forgetting to copy and save them before closing the broadcast window. :(
@limburger2001 The recorded Stilgherrian Live Akpha episode 7 is at http://is.gd/1ad4 for your post-live enjoyment. :)
@Entregreeneur Sorry, I can’t do Ustream support while actually doing the program. Sometimes restarting browser helps.
@katska Episode 7 of Stilgherrian Live Alpha is then, in just over 5 mins… but I will be in the Ustream chat thingo.
12 minutes to air time at http://stilgherrian/com/… … will start standby feed shortly.
Half an hour until the program. I have almost assembled all of the important elements… Mwuahahahahaha!
@limburger2001 “Poke you with a stick”? NOW we’re talking! That and the music. ;)
@mpesce Ah I’ll be right, I have some things to talk about. And couple of songs.
@Entregreeneur Andrew Bolt? Snarkiness, yes, but I want to keep my dinner down.
Hmmm… I don’t feel ANYWHERE near bitter enough to do a Stilgherrian Live Alpha in under two hours. Maybe I should’ve watched some TV.
ACMA: Mobiles aere replacing fixed lines, but convergence of the two into one seamless service unlikely in the short term. http://is.gd/1a3g
Home. And there WILL be episode 7 of Stilgherrian Live Alpha at 2130 Sydney time http://stilgherrian.com/… That’s in approx 140 minutes.
@zhasper Don’t pick on the poor folks at News Corp, the “internents” can be challenging.
Town Hall station continues to be overcrowded and dangerous. Testimony to a decade of what I suspect is deep corruption.

@joshsharp Start as you intend to proceed. Only “too small” suppliers fall for easy haggling tactics, I reckon. Took me ages to learn that.
@joshsharp “Dubious Big Client” is haggling. If you have properly estimated & costed project, do not cave in. Plenty of work out there.
OK, Darlinghurst appointment now officially a write-off. Will have now start wending way CBDwards to collect some things before homeward.
@SilkCharm Does your Internet not have “search”? :P Under Accessories / System Tools, probably. Your fault for using Windows. ;)
@SilkCharm Don’t copy files manually before reformatting hard drive, use the the Files & Settings Transfer Wizard.

@ApostrophePong Pojaman Shinawatra and Pauline Hanson in the same jail together…? Sick puppy…
@mpesce That procedure looks easier than, oh, creating a VPN using PPP over SSH, a few shell scripts and route commands. ;) Ah, memories…
@neerav Do ANY of the Australian carriers have Visual Voicemail on the iPhone though? (And thanks for comment re Virgin & Optus plans.)
@mpesce The lack of being a modem, and suspected poor battery life with a non-swappable battery, are my key doubts re iPhone for my needs.
@mpesce Turning the iPhone 3G into a 3G modem, either via Bluetooth or WiFi. How painful? Does the recipe work?

@DCouch There is a nice irony in my article about China’s firewall being behind Crikey’s paywall. Will do a non-Crikey version tomorrow.
@SnarkyPlatypus My feral goats are none of your concern, young man. Vive le poisson rouge sauvages!
@mpesce What is this “mobile” of which you speak? Is it like that little black buttplug labelled “Nokia” that is on the internetz now?
Me in Crikey today: “The Great Firewall of China: how it works, how to bypass it.” http://tinyurl.com/6jmeo5 Is it behind the paywall?
Waiting at an office in Darlinghurst for a cable guy to quote on a data cabling job. Did I get the time wrong? Did he?
Departing for 1400 client-site meeting in Darlinghurst. 1500 CBD to collect some things. 1600 home again for deskwork etc. Unless waylaid…
Imagine a filing cabinet that’s been turned inside out and ravaged by feral goats. That’s my desk right now. And it’ll have to wait.
@jdub @stokely The CMS could well deliver the web pages just fine, but users will complain they can’t see it ‘cos their computers are wrong.
@jdub @stokely The problem, as always, is Windows. Even if CMS works, a default English windows installation doesn’t install Chinese fonts.
Anyway, Crikey article done, apart from poor @stokely trying to get my Chinese characters to work in their CMS. Prep for Darlinghurst time!
@earleyedition Actually, yes, the whole mobile internet needs to go into the RSF dissidents’ handbook. And Twitter. ;)
@wembley Also, to avoid the flood if someone’s tweeting a conference, http://twittersnooze.com can turn them off the a few hours.
@wembley Thanks for the compliment. To cope with Twitter overload, just let the river flow. Past is past. Don’t try to drink everything. :)
@earleyedition I haven’t looked inside RSF handbook, but techniques would be much the same as 2005. Just diff sources for current proxies?
@dpn It’s usually a fair assumption that I’m complaining about SOMETHING… ;) [gone]
Anyway, I’m at the Mosman client’s office and will now go dark as I destroy their village to save it. Erm, their network I mean.
@earleyedition How can news sites build audience? Well, journalists if any good will have audience already, must market that in new media.
Everybody is part of the community. But what role(s) do they choose? Can they create new roles?
@dpn Not complaining, just observing the forces in play. Exploring how to explain / change.
@earleyedition Re fan sites, they need core critical mass. Message has to resonate with enough to make that possible. Then luck?
@earleyedition journalism’s myth of objectivity means they think they’re separate from “the people” of course…
