“Stilgherrian Live” may have to happen from some random location on the road.

via Twitter Web Client

The shooting schedule says we’re having dinner in Lithgow on the way back, and arrive Sydney 2100-ish. But it’s so nice here…

via Twitter Web Client

@matthooper My intention is to do a “Stilgherrian Live” tonight, yes. I have no idea what form it will take ‘cos I’m not sure where I’ll be.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to matthooper

@facibus This is indeed truly beautiful country. Very fresh and green after the rains the other day. Will perhaps take some pics.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to facibus

Watched a hawk being chased out of the school grounds by three angry magpies. Stops them swooping the kids for a while.

via Twitter Web Client

@facibus Cowra is in Cowra, agreed. Well spotted. ;) Still, I’m actually 7km out of the town and this is a beautiful spot.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to facibus

@crispynoodles Yes, I should indeed get out of Sydney more often. This trip has reminded me of that.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to crispynoodles

Sitting on a verandah doing some sysadmin. Open fields to the horizon, sounds of a dozen species of birds. Why do I live in Sydney?

via Twitter Web Client

This is a thoroughly mind-opening experience and I’ll definitely be writing about OLPC’s impact in some form.

via Twitter Web Client

@jdub The wonderful luxury @aDB and I have is that @ApostrophePong and Tony are busy filming, but we can chat with the teachers.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to jdub

@SnarkyPlatypus This poor little sheep’s brain is being overwhelmed. But what is happening at this school is very special.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

So far the experiment of crowdsourcing our driving music has been full on WIN.

via Twitter Web Client

@misswired Now listening to “99luft Balons” by Nena (with occasional buffer drops) http://is.gd/4aE6

via Twitter Web Client in reply to misswired

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, we have tons of linkage for the moment. I’ll tweet the playlist as we continue.

via Twitter Web Client

BTW, links please. While we have NextG and the MacBook Pro plugged into the car stereo, it’s hard to type while driving.

via Twitter Web Client

@einspruch Thank you, now listening to “Year 3000” by Busted. http://is.gd/4aDX

via Twitter Web Client in reply to einspruch

I’ve been asked to ask the Twitterverse for song suggestions. Our ears are at your mercy. Links please!

via Twitter Web Client

“Who needs a speed and amyl binge when you’ve got Mary Poppins?” asked someone in the car. Can you guess who?

via Twitter Web Client

Cruising the Great Western Highway while streaming relevant music from YouTube: http://is.gd/4aCm

via Twitter Web Client

@stub Pub Trivia: who won? Did anyone tweet this information? See what happens when you leave a girl in charge…! [sigh]

via Twitter Web Client in reply to stubbbbbb

@SnarkyPlatypus Thank you for your politically-oriented welcome. It is much appreciated.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

We added the external antenna to the Telstra NextG this time, and Cowra to Bathurst only dropped out occasionally, longest 3 mins.

via Twitter Web Client

Mobile again. It’s gone dark. Why wasn’t I consulted? Exiting Bathurst, welcome to Kelso.

via Twitter Web Client

Here’s @aDB’s photo of a Bathurst sunset: http://twitpic.com/gh3f

via Twitter Web Client

@einspruch @FionnHyndman @jedwhite @StuartLivesey Ta for the suggestions, but proximity of $6 steaks won out. They were adequate.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to einspruch

‘Cos the choice would be scheduled time (still in car, no light), early (no audience), late at home (no energy).

via Twitter Web Client

Upon consideration, alas there will not be a “Stilgherrian Live” tonight. Even though we just saw someone in rainbow ugg boots.

via Twitter Web Client

@deswalsh “You putting us on?” Me? No, never. ;)

via Twitter Web Client in reply to deswalsh

We’re at the Oxford Hotel, Piper St, Bathurst. $6 steaks FTW! http://is.gd/4axa

via Twitter Web Client

Dear Twitterverse, recommendations for pub dinner in Bathurst NOW please?

via Twitter Web Client

That last tweet may have continued slightly longer than was strictly warranted by good taste. Possibly.

via Twitter Web Client

Beautiful! Pairs of galahs are returning pink & greyly to their communal nesting trees for an evening orgy of deligowra

via Twitter Web Client

Some people’s tweets to me are not appearing in my @replies stream. It’s not my fault if I seem rude.

via Twitter Web Client

The Blainey Pet Shop is right next door to the butcher. Is this something to worry about?

via Twitter Web Client

Entering Blayney (not Blainey, who was a general of some sort, wasn’t he?).

via Twitter Web Client

I have just been informed that Blainey is actually spelt “Blayney”. Fuck the lot of you.

via Twitter Web Client

We’ve now viewed the Blainey Wind Farm. 15 turbines = 10MW. Towers 43m high, blades 23m long. @aDB’s pic at http://twitpic.com/gh0h

via Twitter Web Client

@StuartLivesey Ta for the tip (good Chinese place right in the main street of Blayney) but a little early for today.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to StuartLivesey

We have stumbled into a nest of Grey Nomads at the Carcour Dam camping area. Be very quiet.

via Twitter Web Client

“Wind Farm Viewing Area”, says a sign. We turn right as it suggests, to view the wind farm. Linkage please!

via Twitter Web Client

Bypassing Carcoar, population 385, on the highway. Looks like it has an interesting church but, as I say, bypassing. Sad, actually.

via Twitter Web Client

Crossing Mandurama Creek, having just passed the glorious Royal Hotel, Mandurama. Will take pics on next.

via Twitter Web Client

We are just entering Lyndhurst and can see a wind farm ahead on the horizon. Who can give us linkage fastest?

via Twitter Web Client

There are lors of yummy looking sheep and cows either side of the road as we enter the Blainey Shire.

via Twitter Web Client

@wolfcat There shall be no Willie Nelson of any kind. You’ve already had your influence on this Road Trip, someone else’s turn.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to wolfcat

@allisonr To be honest, I don’t know that I *want* to read more about the Cowra Breakout. Filling my head with more tragedy seems wrong.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to allisonr

We didn’t go into the Japanese Gardens as it was only upon for another 10 minutes and it’s 14 acres. What’s an “acre”?

via Twitter Web Client

“On the Road Again”! Shut up @limburger2001, we are not doing Willie Nelson.

via Twitter Web Client

Mobile. We’re going to isit the Japanese Garden before heading back to Sydney.

via Twitter Web Client

@dcw303 We were also thinking of a longer-running “Stilgherrian Live” project where we drive wherever Twitter asks us to go.

via Twitter Web Client

RT @dcw303: @stilgherrian tripping on peyote through rural NSW would be a great episode if I do say so. [no additional comment]

via Twitter Web Client

Wrapping up at the unnamed school, interviewing @piawaugh again. There’s SO much good material, it seems.

via Twitter Web Client

Wow 8 replies. That US debate thing must be over. ;)

via Twitter Web Client

I’ve been noticing that the trucks going into Cowra are all full of cows, but the trucks returning do not have cows. What happens?

via Twitter Web Client

For anyone who asks you to build a “Skip Intro” screen. ;) http://is.gd/2lR9

via Twitter Web Client

@Froosh There’s no linkage to this OLPC project yet, it’s all very new. I’ll be posting about it when “appropriate”.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to Froosh

@Froosh Re the pic at http://twitpic.com/gfz3 that’s not a dock on the XO but one XO sitting on another XO. Table’s full of ‘em!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to Froosh

@franksting Oh we were on the M4, I was just reading names off the satnav. It names every suburb but the one you’re in.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to franksting

@SnarkyPlatypus Now playing “4Ever” by The Veronicas as we pass thru Leichhardt. Apt? [nods] http://is.gd/4aSY

Oh. 59 minutes of battery life. Mind you, the battery was loaded at Bathurst.

via Twitter Web Client

I do need to point out this isn’t a nostalgiafest as such, but music for @aDB and me and @ApostrophePong and Tony to drive by.

via Twitter Web Client

@docbaty Now listening to “Almost With You” by The Church as we pass through South Wentworthville. http://tinyurl.com/5hbu7a

via Twitter Web Client in reply to ZebraBites

@henrytapia Now listening to “Too Young For Promises” by Kee De Tah. http://is.gd/4aPf

via Twitter Web Client in reply to henrytapia

@docbaty Nah, no Hoodoo Gurus, I veto them. Can’t stand ‘em.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to docbaty

@JonoH Yeah a transponder for live mapping? Way cool. @aDB was saying this totally changes the idea of a Road Trip!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to JonoH

@wolfcat Now listening to “In a Big Country” by Big Country (that was hard for ME to type correctly! http://is.gd/4aOT

via Twitter Web Client in reply to wolfcat

@ZebraBites I know the title “The Deadly Hume” but not the song. Sounds 70s?

via Twitter Web Client in reply to ZebraBites

Now listening to “Heart of Glass” by Blondie. http://is.gd/4aOT

via Twitter Web Client

BTW, no “Stilgherrian Live” tonight ‘cos TV lights in a moving car is a plan full of FAIL! It’s crowdsources music instead.

via Twitter Web Client

And I seem to be out of requests? I’ll pick the next song as we approach Emu Plains, downhill.

via Twitter Web Client

@JonoH Now listening to “Move It On Up” by Curtis Mayfield. http://is.gd/4aNY

via Twitter Web Client in reply to JonoH

I say it again, crowdsourcing a YouTube playlist while cruising down the freeway is awesome. Thank you, Mr NextG! *licks*

Working slowly thru the playlist backlog. Just passed thru Katooooomba. We’ve got enough music to last into Sydney now.

via Twitter Web Client

The dropouts are not lack of NextG connection but there’s a delay as we switch cells and we’d be switching cells lots in the hills.

via Twitter Web Client

(Back on the grid after intermittent dropouts thru the Blue Mountains.)

via Twitter Web Client

Now listening to “Convoy” by C W McCall, which we choseourselves due to a nearly-crash just now. http://is.gd/4aJN

via Twitter Web Client

@yewenyi The only reason I haven’t got the live video link up is lack of light. Bright TV lights = crash into a truck.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to yewenyi

@misswired Now listening to “Golden Brown” by The Stranglers… such WIN! http://is.gd/4aEr

via Twitter Web Client in reply to misswired

@misswired gets 2 in a row bonus trax for srs winnage! “Turning Japanese” by The Vapours http://is.gd/4aEh

Good news. Another client had their Windows Small Business Server 2003 fail. Another reboot fixed it. Let’s hope Darlinghurst is the same.

via Twitter Web Client

Passing thru Railway Square. A bright, sunny day and memories of Cowra help counter the fact that the world is going to Hell at high speed.

via Twitter Web Client

Taxi T-3002 is approaching, says the SMS. Some time this week, I hope. Praise be to the Success Whale.

via Twitter Web Client

@Tarale Excellent, thank you. I see @ApostrophePong is already in touch with your fontly goodness. Praise the Success Whale!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to Tarale

Mistress Eris, would you plz mind taking the day off kthxbai.

via Twitter Web Client

Fri plan: Off to Darlinghurst client to resurrect their server (however long that takes); after that, we’ll see how much of the day is left.

via Twitter Web Client

Dear Twitterverse, need typeface Avenir for Mac NOW. We are licensed but client’s people can’t deliver today. Dm @ please.

via Twitter Web Client

@DamianM Hmmm… I’m seeing far too many messages that say “My Vista machine won’t start today” from too many clueful people… not good.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to DamianM

@hortovanyi Thank the Success Whale, I haven’t worked in a corporate gig for ages. I work with small, small businesses and actual humans.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to hortovanyi

@SnarkyPlatypus Keep up the good work. http://is.gd/4dhx All hail Eris! Vive le poisson rouge sauvages!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

@DavidFeng Sorry, I mis-used an apostrophe again. Please forgive me. I blame it on Friday morning stresses.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to DavidFeng

RT @hortovanyi: “Windows admindroids are too busy patching to do anything else.” More likely that talking to “outside” people is forbidden.

via Twitter Web Client

@SnarkyPlatypus Thank you for your reassuring analysis. Success Whale is frowning at you. http://is.gd/4ddt

via Twitter Web Client in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

These are all Windows Small Business Server 2003. “Only” 1 of 4 broken, and it’s a newish install on its first reboot, so it may be simple.

via Twitter Web Client

OK, total one server reboot failed, one unreachable ‘cos DSL is down (unrelated), one just “forgot” to email it’s daily ‘I’m fine” message.

via Twitter Web Client

I suppose the good news is that the Twitterverse isn’t awash with similar reports. Or do Windows admindroids just not use Twitter?

via Twitter Web Client

Emerges to sound of SMS. Client Windows server offline after last night’s software update. 2 other clients’ servers not reported in. Uhoh.

via Twitter Web Client

I am very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very tired.

via Twitter Web Client

@franksting There is much evil in the world, and it is my role to bring you what I find.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to franksting

@plasmaegg No, @aDB banned all ovine passengers (except the human ones).

via Twitter Web Client in reply to plasmaegg

@aDB Thank you so VERY much for being our driver on . It was heaps of fun and I think we all learned something.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to aDB

@misswired Thanks for sending the music list. I’ll retrieve it in the morning and… do something with it.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to misswired

@mhawkins1970 Ah we did even better: I didn’t pack the toiletries to begin with. So they’re easy to find now.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to mhawkins1970

Home. Cats fed. Luggage piled randomly wherever was nearest to drop things.

via Twitter Web Client

It’s slightly annoying to have to wrap before we quite get home. I will do proper thank-you stuff when I have power again. Soon.

via Twitter Web Client

I suppose someone could compile the playlist in some way. Can’t one of my minions do that? It’s been a long couple of days… ;)

via Twitter Web Client

We are blocked on Dacey Avenue because the workers are painting a big “60” on the road. Vive la revolucion!

via Twitter Web Client

OK, starting to wrap I think. 13 minutes of battery left and the playlist is, oddly, fragmenting. Maybe yu’re all too drunk now.

via Twitter Web Client
