But right now I need to close my eyes for an hour.

via Plume for Android

I think I need help to figure out why good HDDs aren’t slotting into this MacBook’s SATA slot any more. Have I just bent the carrier?

via Plume for Android

RT @SnarkyPlatypus @stilgherrian Still disappointed your Apple didn’t rise from the dead after three days. [They should do that, yes.]

via Plume for Android

Yes, I think I will have to stay in Sydney another night to sort out this computer mess. Making arrangements now..

via Plume for Android

Yay. After two reschedules and two dead computers, I finally recorded the interview with Sourcefire’s @alexgkirk. I’ll run a backup now…

via Plume for Android

I am actually recording. Yay.

via Plume for Android

I have Skyped into the conference call, but no-one is there yet.

via Plume for Android

For some reason, shouting and door banging is now the order of the day.

via Plume for Android

Ready. And waiting. Mostly waiting.

via Plume for Android

RT @GreenJ actually the sittiest and most annoying day you’ve ever had is coming up on August 17. just so you know. [Oh. Lovely.]

via Plume for Android

Found them. Launching Skype. Five minutes until recording time. Who am I talking to and why?

via Plume for Android

Um, where are my headphones?

via Plume for Android

I’m reasonably sure this isn’t the shittiest and most annoying day I’ve ever had.

via Plume for Android

Oh. The “quiet spot” just became unquiet. They’ve got a 1300 function right next to where I set up. Sigh. Moving…

via Plume for Android

In a quiet spot in the hotel foyer, trying not to fall asleep as the MacBook and its ersatz arrangements boot up.

via Plume for Android

I might have to stay in Sydney another day so I have access to people and tools and stuff.

via Plume for Android

@0x1C Thank you. I’m suffering real brainfade with the technical glitches this week.

via Plume for Android in reply to 0x1C

Wed plan, replanned: 1300 interview recording; back up data; return to the annoying technical tasks.

via Plume for Android

@dfg77 There’s a thing called Übercaster that looks close yo the all-in;one production tool, but I haven’t tried it yet.

via Plume for Android in reply to dfg77

@ITSALEXROTH I’ll pimp it a bit before I get bored and move on.

via Plume for Android in reply to cosrnos

@ITSALEXROTH Oh the goat? It’s yours? A friend tweeted a link the other day, it became my avatar for a few days. Spontaneous play.

via Plume for Android in reply to cosrnos

@dfg77 But remote sides of a conference all one channel ‘cos that’s how Skype supplies it.

via Plume for Android in reply to dfg77

@dfg77 Yes, call sides as channels in QuickTime movie, tools to split into separate files, convert to AIFF etc. Must post my workflow.

via Plume for Android in reply to dfg77

@dfg77 Ecamm Skype Call Recorder for Mac. Excellent tool.

via Plume for Android in reply to dfg77

So, it’s possible to record Skype calls even with the boot drive being on USB. Restorative noodle soup will now allow me to re-plan the day.

via Plume for Android

RT @GreenJ if god had intended computers to work, why did she invent help desks? huh? [Fair point.]

via Plume for Android

God did not intend computers to work this way.

via Plume for Android

@6564828 Yes, this isn’t the fastest way to do things, but it may get me out of a jam.

via Plume for Android in reply to timfdavis

Thanking all the gods, and pliers, my boot drive is now booting the MacBook via USB. Now to see if it’s able to run fast enough to record…

via Plume for Android

The Tweezer Mission begins.

via Plume for Android

The other bit of context is that “fixing computers” is not the overall goal. And certainly not experimenting. Getting my work done is.

via Plume for Android

I should do what I did one other time, liveblog the process not tweet, so everyone has the full context and I don’t have to repeat it.

via Plume for Android

@pojiku Possibly, but I think it’s a hardware problem, not even connecting SATA. Neither known good boot drives. Misaligned insert, I’d say.

via Plume for Android in reply to pojiku

I need a sugar daddy. Clive, I could give you so much pleasure…

via Plume for Android

willemrt Hey @ABC_NewsRadio can you get your reporters to stop saying increasing Assaults in Kings Cross, its not true. bocsar.nsw.gov.au/Lawlink/bocsar…

via Twitter for Mac (retweeted on 9:08 AM, Jul 18th, 2012 via Plume for Android)

I will get tweezers. I will not attempt it using the spoon handle and a small screwdriver.

via Plume for Android

Wed plan, interim: Shower; see if MacBook booted via USB fast enough for 1300 recording; plan rest of day based on that evidence.

via Plume for Android

If I had lots of money, I could throw money at the problem. But I don’t have lots of money. But I suppose we make our choices.

via Plume for Android

RT @gusworldau Tweezers? [Yep. But being in a hotel room, I must put on pants and go buy said tweezers. Or needle-nose pliers. Sigh.]

via Plume for Android

OK, I’m now officially jinxed. MacBook HDD slides in on a carrier, with plastic tab to pull it out. Tab just tore. Fingers too fat to reach.

via Plume for Android

It’s 0845 and Apple’s call centre isn’t open yet? How quaint.

via Plume for Android

@cafedave If it’s a logic board problem, it happened in the time between taking a drive out and putting one in. It was all working fine.

via Plume for Android in reply to cafedave

The drive clone was so the original went in my MacBook Pro for the repairs today, the copy into the loaner MacBook. So repairs get moved.

via Plume for Android

Some good news. I can boot the MacBook from a drive attached to USB, so it will kinda run. Why can’t it see the same drive via SATA? Broken?

via Plume for Android

Thanks for the USB estimates. Tweaking times is irrelevant now. Must focus on getting a working machine. Cloning, drop-off postponed.

via Plume for Android

@LucasJamesAU We’re not up to dd yet. We’re still at take out boot drive we want to clone, insert other boot drive to run machine.

via Plume for Android in reply to LucasJamesAU

@juhasaarinen That’s what I have here, though they’re 2.5” SATA drives. Using adapters. That was the first cut: Can I do this before 1145.

via Plume for Android in reply to juhasaarinen

@jplonie @D_Keating No, I can handle the truth, and prefer it. It clarifies the options.

via Plume for Android in reply to jplonie

RT @imtimhanlon Theoretically yes, but I’d leave eight or so hours [Thanks. That tells me drop Apple appointment, focus on drive working.]

via Plume for Android in reply to timhnln

I will be slow to interact for a while. Working on the phone and trying to think.

via Plume for Android

Could someone please confirm my arithmetic, cloning a 750GB drive over USB 2.0, best conditions, is like 3 hours?

via Plume for Android

The good news, I suppose, is that no data is lost, and I have a current Time Machine backup as well. But I need to get something working.

via Plume for Android

I decided to sleep on that, which was sensible, but now there’s probably not time to clone it before the booked appointment at Apple.

via Plume for Android

So, to face the problem, the loaner MacBook was recognising neither of the boot drives, mine or the original. And mine isn’t cloned yet.

via Plume for Android

This is, I believe, Wednesday. And I have a new problem to solve. I am only quite a lot stressed.

via Plume for Android

Fucking things up, somehow. Why isn’t this machine recognising ANY drives now? I’m missing something obvious. I need to sleep on it. Gone.
