Actually I’m not opening the wine, @nancycato1, I don’t feel like wine. I might just go to bed.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

@nancycato1 Well I’m opening the wine now so I hope you’re happy.

@SnarkyPlatypus I know @crikey_news and @amworldtodaypm have been deep into it, not sure about the broadsheet mastheads.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

@SnarkyPlatypus Yes. Especially with an adhesive that can stick anything to anything in ten seconds.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

Hmmm… Fix glasses or drink wine! Silly question, really.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

@bernietb I still have to make that plan work. It may not be possible.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to bernietb

@dananimal Well, it’s the most complex, with the highest number of likely to fail components.

via Plume for Android in reply to dananimal

@dananimal Plus Apple solders a lot of stuff directly to the logic board that some manufacturers put into sockets.

RT @NicholasFryer: Contemplating my nostril hair and fiddling with the gas stove. [And I thought my life was shit…]

via Tweetbot for iΟS

@bernietb It’s cool. I might just rearrange my plans so I don’t need that material.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to bernietb

@JanJoostBouwman A warranty doesn’t make it last, it makes it free to repair when it doesn’t last. Extended AppleCare is three years.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to JanJoostBouwman

@bernietb This is my thinking, though my main concern is accessing data. The iPad can’t read encrypted Time Machine backups.

@sirneggles I’ve known this sort of thing to happen, yes, though I have yet to strike it personally.

@BXGD This makes sense. You see the same thing here, of course.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to BXGD

Now, to figure out how I can work until about Wednesday.

via Plume for Android

Once more I say unto people, if you buy a Mac, especially a portable one, get the extended AppleCare warranty.

via Plume for Android

MacBook Pro will be getting a new logic board, including graphics card, keyboard and top case under warranty in 3 to 5 days Inc weekend.

via Plume for Android

I can’t tell any more. That just goes to show the respect in this community.

Except can you imagine what Twitter is going to be like the night San Francisco is finally destroyed? “OMFG my Uber hasn’t arrived!”

Mind you, pretty much anything I write results in me getting complaints, so I might as well just go for it.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

At some point in the next few days I’m going to say “lifestyle business” and “doctors’ wives” in the same sentence and I’ll get complaints.

@AGFchairman I haven’t found that a problem, but it may vary by store. I just don’t like the shiny shiny retail atmosphere. Or people.

Sat plan, second redraft: Tram to Haymarket; hardware errand; noodles; 1900 Apple Store Sydney; remainder TBA depending on prognosis.

@ruminski Indeed. Some of the stuff that @fanfiction_txt digs out is just the best* literature humanity has to offer.

@shiftkey @michaelneale If they whinge about the scratches and dents, I’ll kick off.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@shiftkey @michaelneale Thank you. It’s likely that I’ll be repaired under warranty. So it’s just a matter of time and a loaner machine.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@shiftkey @michaelneale Well, I have a Time Machine backup from yesterday afternoon, so I have my data, just can’t access it.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@shiftkey @michaelneale That is beautiful. I’d show you some similar images, but they’re all on the laptop.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@elronxenu Oh that’s hilarious. Reminds me of when the data file for a class exercise was hacked, all the 0s and Os swapped. Great work.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to elronxenu

@shiftkey @michaelneale Yep, that’s a sensible plan. I suppose I should do a South Australian break sone time.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@shiftkey @michaelneale Annoyingly small. There’s a reason I haven’t been back in 10 years, I think it is now.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@shiftkey @michaelneale He poured us each a double vodka, left the bottle on the bar for me, gave me a key. “Room 6, stay here if you like.”

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

@shiftkey @michaelneale You the gentlemen are right. If I’m going to get bad news, I should be offered vodka. It’s only fair.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to shiftkey

My guess, partially well informed, is that the video card has gone. There have been increasingly frequent video glitches.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

That said, once more I congratulate myself on always buying Apple’s extended AppleCare warranty.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

I will be going to a bar this evening, it seems. A Bar of Genuises. What an excellent* way to spend a Saturday evening.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

@Selyst Yes. For some value of “nice”. Yet for some strange reason this knowledge fails to cheer me up right now.

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to Selyst

And does the MacBook Pro work now? No, it does not. So there’s that too.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

I would appear that I just fell asleep for four hours pt of sheer exhaustion. So there’s that.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

OK, that’s two key bits of equipment failed so far this morning. I’m turning everything off for a couple hours and summoning the asteroid.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

Sat plan, draft: Ensure I can get this MacBook Pro to actually boot, since I do kinda need a machine to work on; remainder TBA, depending.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

And there goes the MacBook Pro again. But white, not blue, this crash. The poor thing is dying.

via Tweetbot for iΟS

@R_Chirgwin This is why titanium ramps up the maintenance costs of military aircraft. Well, one of the reasons. Some sort of adhesive it is.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to R_Chirgwin

@MarkLaffan Yep, was an annoyingly long turnaround last time for me. I think I might ban titanium from future purchases.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to MarkLaffan

@mpesce What have waterfowl to do with this?

via Janetter for Mac in reply to mpesce

@R_Chirgwin Not you specifically, but “Is it possible to solder titanium?”

via Janetter for Mac in reply to R_Chirgwin

@mpesce I’ve decided I want to learn more about him, after reading a brief bio this morning. I see there are “books”.

@R_Chirgwin It only has to last two weeks. I need new glasses anyway, so I’ll bring that forward. Order next weekend, deliver a week later.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to R_Chirgwin

@R_Chirgwin Yes, just confirmed, they’re actually not an alloy, they’re titanium.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to R_Chirgwin

@R_Chirgwin So this one? selleys.com.au/putty/epoxy/kn… Or the one for steel? This is a non-ferrous metal, as far as I can tell.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to R_Chirgwin

What’s the 21st Century 2014-style all-purpose adhesive? Do we still just use a 2-part epoxy for everything in sight?

via Janetter for Mac

@Manic_Henry I’m in Sydney at the moment, but since they’d need to be sent off for repair and I have no spare, some adhesive is the go.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to Manic_Henry

@blahjedi True. Also, small brazing torches, which is what I think they use. They’re made of some bullshit titanium alloy, I think.
