My week of Monday 6 to Sunday 12 July 2020 was curious one. I felt the joy of being able to get out and about, but I felt the fear of Victoria’s borders being closed and the stress being increased for the rest of us Australians as the ’rona kills more of us. Still, I made a podcast.
Podcasts
- “The 9pm His Plague Diary 12: The Maskeningâ€, being The 9pm Edict episode 111 recorded on Sunday. Things have changed. It’s weird.
The 9pm Edict is supported by the generosity of its listeners. Please subscribe for special benefits or throw a few coins into the tip jar. Please consider.
Articles
- Services Australia’s proud achievements include answering the phone, ZDNet, 9 July 2020. I haven’t done a truly snarky The Full Tilt column on a while. This is one.
Media Appearances
- Last week’s story China’s influence via WeChat is ‘flying under the radar’ of most Western democracies has been cited by the Wikipedia article on WeChat.
Corporate Largesse
None.
Recommendations
None this week, but there will be a few next week. I do love how my “new regular features” always fall apart.
The Week Ahead
The isolation continues at Bunjaree Cottages at Wentworth Falls, mostly, and I’m getting sick of saying it. Every week is now me trying to think of things to write about, and then trying to get the enthusiasm to write it. I think a lot of us are here right now, in our various jobs.
July is traditionally a very slow time in the tech media anyway, as companies turn inwards to focus on their finances, and Parliament is on its winter break. Maybe this year will be different, but I doubt it. Still, I’ll try to pop in to some of the online seminars and such.
But…
I’ll do a Sydney day on Thursday and stay through to Saturday, because these brief escapes from the Mountains really do improve my mental health.
On Tuesday I’ll dip into A special Geekfest: Framing the Climate Debate, with the folks from Essential Report polling.
Further Ahead
These are still the only three longer-term items in the calendar, and I’m now quite sceptical that the latter two will actually happen in the listed cities.
