The next episode of The 9pm Edict will be special. I’m going to record it live to “tape” while streaming it to the internet, just like a live radio program, this Thursday 5 November 2015 at 2100 AEDT.
I’ll be using Spreaker, a streaming audio platform.
You’ll be able to listen right here on this web page using the widget immediately below (which shows all the Skank Media material uploaded so far), on any of the various Spreaker apps (the listening apps, not the studio/production apps), or presumably on the The 9pm Edict’s show page at Spreaker — though that last one I haven’t tested yet.

You’ll be able to tweet along using the Twitter hashtag #9pmlive.
If you use the apps, you should also be able to take part in a chat of some sort — but again, that’s something I haven’t tried out yet. This is an experiment, yeah?
I’ll have some sort of test transmission running from 2030 AEDT, so half an hour before the program proper starts at 2100 AEDT.
My apologies to anyone who was expecting this to happen on Tuesday or Wednesday night. I did say that, but I’ve had to reschedule things to accommodate certain other production work.
Looking further ahead, I intend to produce most of my podcasts this way, with a live stream. There will be another Public House Forum before Christmas, similar to The 9pm Public House Forum 1 but streamed live. And I’ll be occasional live specials from various events, and for various reasons. Stay tuned.

My week of Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November 2015 pleased me, mostly because a certain podcast returned.
I was rather exhausted in the middle of the week, however, because Ruxcon does tend to take it out of you. But I was very pleased that Certain Other Plans seem to be coming together just fine.

On Tuesday, I’ll sort out my audio recordings for my forthcoming documentary for ABC Radio National’s Future Tense, and organise any interviews that seem to be missing.
On Wednesday, I’ll catch the 0606 train to Sydney and head to ABC Ultimo, with recording sessions schedule at 0845 for Future Tense, and 1000 for Download This Show. I’ll have lunch in the city before heading back up the hill. Any takers?
On Thursday, I’m producing a special live episode of The 9pm Edict.
On Friday, I’ll be recording the last few interviews for Future Tense.
I am determined that the coming weekend will contain no work, mostly because this week’s attempt to have an actual weekend was a dismal failure.
On Tuesday 10 November, I’ll be in Sydney for the Law via Internet (LvI) Conference 2015 at the University of New South Wales — and if you look carefully at the program, you’ll see that I’m on one of the panels.
I’m also in Sydney on Wednesday 11 for Remembrance Day commemorations, as well as a lunchtime briefing by Kaspersky Lab.

This evening I did one of my now (ir)regular spots on ABC 774 Melbourne, and since I’d been at Ruxcon over the weekend, that conference was an obvious topic.
Presenter Lindy Burns and I started off talking about the origins of the word “hacker”, and that led into a brief history of cybercrime, before we got into the so-called “dark web” and Silk Road… and even the risks of smart TVs.
Here’s the entire 23-minute conversation exactly as it aired — and as Ms Burns herself freely admits, it strayed well away from our planned topics.

My week of Monday 19 to Sunday 25 October 2015 didn’t unfold as planned, except for the fact that it concluded with me heading to Melbourne to cover Ruxcon. That bit did happen.
The photograph is misleading, therefore. Those relaxing moments at St Kilda, Melbourne, were a tiny minority of those seven days — and they only happened on Saturday night because I’d started suffering microsleeps during the afternoon, and I went back to the hotel for a nap.
Still, I wrote two articles that have been very well received — thank you — and most of the targets were eventually achieved.
None, again, but a new episode of The 9pm Edict will appear… eventually. No, it will. Truly.

On Monday (today), I’m sorting out all my audio recordings from Ruxcon, organising a few more recordings, and probably writing for ZDNet, before a live radio spot at 1930 AEDT on ABC 774 Melbourne.
On Tuesday, I’ll be doing a few more media things in Melbourne before catching VA865 MEL-SYD at 1645 AEDT. Whether I return directly to Wentworth Falls after that, or pause a while in Sydney, is yet to be decided.
The remainder of the week will see me writing a column for ZDNet, producing an episode of The 9pm Edict, finally finishing the video of my UTS lecture, and doing some pre-production for my Future Tense documentary — but the exact order has yet to be arranged.

One of the more amusing information security stories last week was the news that CIA director John Brennan’s personal email account at AOL had been taken over by a couple of young hackers.
I ended up providing a few comments on ABC Radio’s PM on Thursday.
It’s a situation that would be deeply embarrassing for any CEO but for the director of the CIA to have his private email account accessed by hackers is beyond humiliating. Leaked emails appear to discuss the use of torture and to contain extensive details of the CIA chief’s private life. The CIA has condemned the hack as a crime, saying the hacked email was a family account. PM has obtained an interview with two people who claim to be the hackers. Sarah Dingle reports.
