It would seem I’m NOT on ABC Radio Statewide NSW this afternoon because the program isn’t back from summer break yet. Makes sense.

@designdyke Is there any particular reason you’d be susceptible to having your buttcrack photographed?

@grantshow I have many talents. Some of them are obscure, some amusing, some both.

@adamnelson No, that was my summary of the situation with Telstra. I’d just been speaking with “Cameron in North Queensland”.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to adamnelson

@D_Keating I’ve found the author’s comments on those charts to be shallow, yes. Often makes up causation.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to D_Keating

Telstra fault update: “Cameron in North Queensland” spent 20+ minutes correcting the error in the original order. Fingers are crossed.

@Telstra Thanks Scott, but I deliberately do NOT want to rely on problems being solved via Twitter. Normal customer service should work. :)

@SnarkyPlatypus Toutes les singularités sont banals, parce que quand tout est pareil il n’y a rien d’unique. Assassiner Kurtzweil!

@hopeinhell “Gaining traction” is meaningless. Please ask them to quote concrete numbers in real units.

@SnarkyPlatypus Bonjour. J’ai réarrangé l’univers, et il est un meilleur endroit. Et vous?

This year I shall spit upon everyone who says “gaining traction”, unless they’re talking about adhesive friction or orthopedics.

@bgosford You fib. The Old Swan Brewery does not serve swan. http://bit.ly/4tZ3hx There is now sulking.

@yesthatshawn What? The Norman Invasion was a conspiracy hatched by lawyers to increase their word count and billable hours?

via Twitter Web Client

@wolfcat If I have vodka with me in a park, I’m not going to soak bread in it and feed it to swans! That’s why the Good Lord invented guns!

via Twitter Web Client in reply to wolfcat

Where can I get swan for dinner?

via Twitter Web Client

@lelak But yes, chicken was peasant food. Fast-growing, need little land. Still the same in Africa today. Roadside diners have chicken.

@Warlach What? “Twitter accounts or other social media to assist people this Bushfire season?” Social media is only for marketing, silly!

@retrogrrl Linguistics has always been a fascination. I majored in it, actually. Well, until they killed off the course.

@discostu101 Not lamb-lamb as a pairing in this style, but sheep-lamb. Like pig-pork, yes.

via Twitter Web Client in reply to discostu

@lelak No, the Old English words are “cock” and “henn” and “ciken”. It’s all a bit blurrier than the simple class theory.

@john_larkin Alas, my Medieval French is a tad rusty. Time passes…

via Twitter Web Client in reply to john_larkin

Also, we use an OE word “cow” for the animal (farmers = Saxon peasants), the Norman word “beef” (boeuf) for the prepared food.

via Twitter Web Client

Medieval law would always use both the Old English and Norman French words so that both the conquerors and the underlings understood.

via Twitter Web Client

As for goods and chattels, both are “moveable property” as opposed to land and buildings.

via Twitter Web Client

Goods and chattels. Law and order. Ways and means. Rack and ruin. Lord and master. Null and void. Part and parcel.

via Twitter Web Client

Aha! There’s NO difference! It’s an example of paired Old English / Saxon and Norman / French legal words to ensure all understood the law.

via Twitter Web Client

What IS the difference between a good and a chattel? I mean, I’m across flotsam vs jetsam OK, but…
