@StJamesPharmacy On, no, this was a robot on the telephone. Voice response IVR system for troubleshooting ADSL connections.

@peterhau Yeah both @R_Chirgwin and a local cabbie were very excited that I’d seen the Gang-Gang. I haven’t seen him since that morning.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to peterhau

@SnarkyPlatypus @NewtonMark I can thoroughly recommend The Pursuit of Oblivion. Also, the book of that name by Richard Davenport-Hines.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

Since you all seem so excited about the mysterioius pump, here is a Gang-Gang Cockatoo. flickr.com/photos/stilghe…

via Janetter for Mac

@moldor Thank you for all your help. You saved me having a re-find a lot of resources I haven’t needed in a while.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to moldor

Trying to solve my mystery pump photo earlier? flickr.com/photos/stilghe… Here’s a Google Street View image g.co/maps/wcu8j

via Janetter for Mac

Wow. Relatively recent (under a year) Google Street View imagery of Wentworth Falls is available.

via Janetter for Mac

@MattMOfDoom Unless the exchange is at Lawson rather than Wentworth Falls.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to MattMOfDoom

@moldor Thanks. That matches router’s reported sync of 4453k. but 4km to exchange? Wentworth Falls? Not even half that! g.co/maps/3r3y3

via Janetter for Mac in reply to moldor

@jplonie @jeamland Yep, agreed procedure is now to reboot the router once the rain stops and the sun comes out.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to jplonie

@jeamland To quote the tech, “The 582n? There’s not a lot going on inside there.” Things went to shit during heavy rain the other night.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to jeamland

@jeamland Embarrassed to say, what was fixed was rebooting the router, the glorious Technicolor TG582n. Seems unable to retrain DSL back up.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to jeamland

@moldor Attentuation up/down 36,2 / 55,5db, SN margin up/down 5,5 / 6,1db /cc @MattMOfDoom

via Janetter for Mac in reply to moldor

@StJamesPharmacy Actually, here’s a challenge for you! twitter.com/mpesce/status/…

via Janetter for Mac in reply to StevesKorean

RT @StJamesPharmacy: @stilgherrian that’d be some anger, right there. [Surely you have something out back that’d help…?]

via Janetter for Mac in reply to StevesKorean

@MattMOfDoom “Near” Wentworth Falls is the keyword. ADSL via a line that goes… fuck knows where. If I had an F-Set handy…

via Janetter for Mac in reply to MattMOfDoom

So I have faster internets again now. A whopping 3.8Mbps down, 0.5Mbps up, which is pretty much what we can expect here in the scrubland.

via Janetter for Mac

A robot is lecturing me about download limits.

via Janetter for Mac

So, the account is not over quota. We’re back to the damaged-during-storm theory.

via Janetter for Mac

@ataraxite Before I consider the taxonomy you referred me to, WTF is this meant to be? twimg0-a.akamaihd.net/profile_backgr…

via Janetter for Mac

@Telstra Thank you, Matt. I will suppress my nausea at having to use Facebook to talk you and give it a go.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to Telstra

Carlos is helping me.

“Pastebin’s mission of freedom”? Oh now I AM with Julia. Prevent all the drugs NAO!

via Janetter for Mac

ANY FUCKWIT CAN TAKE A MAJOR CHORD AND PLAY THE FOUR NOTES INDIVIDUALLY IN 4/4 TIME OVER AND OVER AGAIN YOU FUCKING FRAUDS!

via Janetter for Mac

THIS IS NOIW SOUNDING DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO A MUZAK® COVER OF COLDPLAY YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER BASTARDS!

via Janetter for Mac

Meanwhile the PM craps on about drugs and criminals as if she knows WTF she’s talking about. THIS IS WHAT CAUSES DRUGS, JULIA! THIS!

via Janetter for Mac

Every company with a voice “recognition” IVR should be required to replace all senior managers’ PAs with said technology.

via Janetter for Mac

Every company should be required by law to play its on-hold music in the offices of all senior managers for six hours each working day.

via Janetter for Mac

The @Telstra on-hold music is carefully constructed to be maximally despised by pretty much every sentient creature in the galaxy.

via Janetter for Mac

So the person in the @Telstra call centre couldn’t hear me and so hung up. So much win.

@SnarkyPlatypus Scapemammal choices are limited. Antechinus, wallaby. I reckon the rosellas are a better choice of scapecritter.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to SnarkyPlatypus

Dear @Telstra, when your telephone computerbint says I’ll be on hold for 13 minutes, it’d help if “she” sounded vaguely sympathetic.

via Janetter for Mac

@The_Bigfella Yep, that white float is the intake to the pump, as least as far as I could see.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to The_Bigfella

They’re not MY teenagers, @BeauGiles. Good God!

via Janetter for Mac in reply to BeauGiles

There’s a large choice of broadband providers up here, @jeamland. What’s that integer just below 2 again?

via Janetter for Mac in reply to jeamland

At 256kbps the Telstra home page takes 1 minute 45 seconds to load. I believe 256kbps still officially counts as “broadband”.

via Janetter for Mac

My life-shortening act: The ADSL link that two teenage lads will be using for the next fortnight? It’s now over-quota, throttled to 256kbps.

via Janetter for Mac

Discovering that I have just significantly reduced my life expectancy. It now numbers mere days. Oops.

@jonoabroad I have no idea what the fruit are. It’d be too cold up here for papaya, surely?

via Janetter for Mac in reply to jonoabroad

Ta for the suggestions. I’ll add them to the Flickr post shortly. Note than the dam is new, isn’t on Google Maps imagery. Will look around.

Noticing a credit card charge “RAILCORPROATION NSW”. I’m such a big fan of precsiion, you know.

via Janetter for Mac

Phishing, @Antipaganda? Perhaps, but I didn’t stay on the phone long enough to tell. I have their mobile number though. Probably just daft.

via Janetter for Mac in reply to Antipaganda

No, person I’ve never heard of who just called, I will not discuss a client’s network with you. And don’t act surprised.

via Janetter for Mac

Australia’s Cyber Defence Uni Challenge is under way, with scoring at @2012CDUCScoring … sadly I couldn’t make sitting in on a team.

RT @rashasman: While we’re on the subject of phrases destroyed by overuse “Game Changer” is another that should be done away with. [Oui!]

RT @rashasman: any choice involving more than two options can not be a dilemma by its very definition. [That too, and also additionally.]

via Janetter for Mac in reply to rashasman

Note to journalists! Not EVERY choice is a “dilemma”. The vast majority are just choices.

via Janetter for Mac

MIXED METAPHOR ALERT!

via Janetter for Mac

Saying that a Kinect game ruins your enjoyment of the Star Wars films is like saying a gay marriage ruins heterosexual marriages. Discuss.

via Janetter for Mac

Finally starting what I intended to start at 0600. It’s 0930, so that’s not so bad, really. Bah. I’ll try not to cry.

via Janetter for Mac

RT @gusworldau: Another day, another invitation with all the salient details buried in an unreadable image. [Yes. How copy/paste?]

via Janetter for Mac

I’ll let the card-emailers respond before naming ‘em, @bleeters @AndrewCzzz

via Janetter for Mac

So, I got up at 0530 to get some urgent stuff done before 0900. Proportion of that stuff actually done: 0. I am not enamoured of this week.

via Janetter for Mac

Actually, I see some typing errrors that indicate Bill is probably human after all. I’ve just sent a support centre into a mirth breakdown.

via Janetter for Mac

“Heh. That is a statement about your belief, not Bill’s status, but I shall leave it there.”

via Janetter for Mac

“Did you have any additional questions?” “Only about Bill’s robot/human status. :)” “I believe he is a human ;)”

via Janetter for Mac

Well at least the topic for tomorrow’s op-ed is set, eh?

via Janetter for Mac

My respect for a supplier that I’ve been using for years and trusted has now plummetted.

Erm, provide new credit card details “by email at billing@REDACTED.com”? I DON’T BE THINKING SO!

via Janetter for Mac

I am now in chat with an alleged human who will provide alleged assistance.

via Janetter for Mac

I think I’ve just been talking to a live chat robot. Either that, or the human just failed the Turing Test.

via Janetter for Mac

Explaining the concept of Audio RI. It is faling to be persuasive.

via Janetter for Mac

Stress levels rising sharply.

via Janetter for Mac

Broken extranet brings SEKRIT project to standstill. Another extranet filled with arsehattery slows another task.

via Janetter for Mac

I must now concentrate on this urgent SEKRIT project for a couple hours. I’m sure you’ll be able to amuse yourselves for a while.

via Janetter for Mac

@purserj It gets even better, ‘cos @RidT actually says talking about cyber war is not very useful. ;)
