Weekly Wrap 758: Fall down go splat, plus a train pic

My week of Monday 2 to Sunday 8 December 2024 was dominated by the experience of me falling and breaking my face on Tuesday night. I’ll tell you more about that in a blog post very soon, although you may well have learned enough from my socials. But on the plus side my summer crowdfunder was successful. Hurrah!

Here’s a brief summary of my injuries, written the day after. There are photos. Needless to say I got very little productive done this week. However I am recovering quite well.

Thanks for supporting this season’s crowdfunder

Thanks everyone! Photo of a late middle-aged white man with short hair, fat cheeks, and spectacles. It's Stilgherrian! He wears a grey sweater. In the background is a wooden jetty running towards you from a distant beach with Norfolk pine trees and a bright blue sky. The text reads: The 9pm Summer Series 2024.

On Thursday night we wrapped up the new season’s crowdfunding campaign, The 9pm Summer Series 2024.

Eventually we reached 97% of Target Three, so I’m calling that close enough.

This means we’ll have six special-guest episodes of the podcast The 9pm Edict between now and the end of February, plus two pilot episodes of the Untitled Music Podcast with Snarky Platypus in January. Stay tuned for details.

I’ll skip this section, because this post is already quite late. You’ll get a double dose of Elon Musk news and other links next week.

The Week Ahead

It’s already Monday. I came down to Sydney this morning for some medical follow-ups after last week’s little accident. I’m staying overnight in the accommodation I’d booked for when I was originally scheduled to be returning from Victoria, although of course that expedition had to be cancelled.

Tuesday is about another medical appointment, errands, and a little shopping before returning to the Blue Mountains.

Wednesday sees the rescheduled recording of the final spring series episode of the The 9pm Edict with Justin Warren, “consultant, freedom of information tragic, hexagon enthusiast, and creator of the CyberRating™ labelling scheme”. We’re bound to talk about Australia’s social media bans for under-16s which were legislated the other day, but there’s much more.

If you’re a supporter with TRIGGER WORDS or a CONVERSATION TOPIC for this episode, please get them to me by 8pm AEDT this Tuesday 10 December.

The 9pm Edict is supported by the generosity of its listeners. You can always throw a few coins into the tip jar or subscribe for special benefits. Please consider.

Saturday may or may not see me heading down to Sydney for a social event. Update 11 December 2024: I won’t make it down to Sydney for that one on Saturday. However I will have a different social thing in the Mountains on Sunday.

Further Ahead

  • Sydney days, 26 December 2024 to 3 January 2025. I’m taking every opportunity to spend time in Sydney for reasons which by now you may understand.

This section has thinned out, sure, but don’t worry. I know I said I’d flesh it out this week, but that was delayed for reasons which are now well-known.
