The 9pm Edict’s Public House Forum LIVE

Screenshot of The 9pm Edict being recordedToday’s recording session of The 9pm Edict’s Public House Forum will now be streamed live from 1400 AEST.

As before, I’ll be using Spreaker, a streaming audio platform.

You’ll be able to listen right here on this web page using the widget immediately below (which shows all the episodes of the Edict uploaded to Spreaker so far). A “Live” button will appear when the broadcast starts.

[Update 5 June 2016: The recording has been done. The Spreaker player currently shows the raw recording. You’ll have to skip in 45 min 45 sec to get to the actual program. This will be replaced with the final edited version later today on Monday.]

You can also use any of the various Spreaker apps (the listening apps, not the studio/production apps), or presumably listen on the The 9pm Edict’s show page at Spreaker.

You’ll be able to tweet along using the Twitter hashtag #9pmlive.

I’ll have some sort of test transmission running from 1345 AEST, so a quarter of an hour before the program proper starts at 1400 AEST.

Weekly Wrap 313: Cybering on the Gold Coast, and a podcast

Approaching the Gold Coast: click to embiggenMost of my week Monday 23 to Sunday 29 May 2016 was spent on the Gold Coast, although it began in the Blue Mountains and ended in Sydney, all as planned.

  • My journey to the Gold Coast was covered by AusCERT, who provided return flights SYD-OOL; airport transfers; three nights accommodation at Marriott Surfers Paradise; and an ample sufficiency of food and drink. I didn’t gather much swag, just some essentials. Avecto: Wednesday morning Berocca. Palo Alto Networks: a copy of Cybersecurity for Dummies.

The Week Ahead

I should be in Sydney for the whole week. With no specific appointments at this stage, apart from a medical appointment on Wednesday, I’ll work through some writing for ZDNet, the several geek-for-hire projects, and the neverending tax bookkeeping.

That said, on one day I’ll need to collect my audio gear from Wentworth Falls. On another, I want to do an audio test at Hurstville, to see if it’ll be possible to live-stream the podcast recording session.

On Saturday afternoon, I’m recording The 9pm Edict Public House Forum 3 at the Hurstville Ritz Hotel. On Sunday morning, I’ll edit and post that podcast.

ERT 2016: part of the stage for AusCERT 2016

ABC logoAs careful readers will know, I’ve spent most of the week on Australia’s Gold Coast at the AusCERT 2016 Conference. That piqued the interest of ABC Gold Coast.

On Thursday morning I recorded a chat about various security and cybercrime topics of interest, which was edited down to this 16-minute conversation.

The presenter is Nicole Dyer.

Weekly Wrap 312: How can this possibly be right?

Sydney Harbour Bridge from 35 Clarence Street: click to embiggenMonday 16 to Sunday 22 May 2016 was another week that went pretty much to plan. That’s two in a row!

I won’t jinx it by saying anything else.

Corporate Largesse

  • On Tuesday, I went to the Sydney media launch for Huawei’s Mate 8 smartphone. Drinks and canapés were served, and I now have a loaner review unit of said phone. I’ll post my comments in due course.
  • On Wednesday, I went to a lunchtime briefing by SimpliVity at GPO Prime Steak Restaurant, where the food and wine was as stunning as ever. We also received a goodie bag containing SimpliVity-branded Google Cardboard VR viewer, Chipolo Bluetooth tracker tag, and pen.

The Week Ahead

Monday morning begins with sorting out a billion loose ends. Well half a billion. Then I’ll finish that episode of The 9pm Edict podcast.

On Tuesday, I’ll take the train to Sydney to deal with a few errands, and then at 1510 catch VA527 SYD-OOL. From Tuesday evening through to Friday afternoon, I’ll be covering the AusCERT Cyber Security Conference on the Gold Coast. Apart from my usual conference coverage, once more I’ll be on the panel for the event’s closing Speed Debate. And then at 1705 I’ll be heading back south on VA536 OOL-SYD.

I’ll then be staying in Sydney overnight, and probably for the weekend, but that latter part has yet to be confirmed.

Further Ahead

On the afternoon of Saturday 4 June, I hope to be recording The 9pm Edict Public House Forum 3 at a location to be announced. If nothing else, it’s half-way through Australia’s interminable election campaign, so I suspect that may be one of the topics for discussion. I have left the organisation a bit late, however, so I may have to drop it back to an ordinary episode.

Another episode will appear some time around Monday 20 June.
