Weekly Wrap 523: Finally getting out to the pub

Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June 2020 took us into the eleventh week of COVID-19 lockdown and beyond, but with restrictions starting to be lifted in NSW I managed to get to the pub. Twice. And Quolliver the Adventure Quoll came with me.

It felt great to be out and about again, though the first trip down to Sydney on Monday still felt strange. It felt less strange going to the Alexandra Hotel in Leura on Saturday, but I’m still worried that restrictions are being lifted way too early.

Productivity was way down, however. I really just need to get out more.

I did a few hours of pre-production on a full episode of The 9pm Edict, but with The Situation in the United States moving so quickly I couldn’t find a deeper there to what I was likely say. Same with this weekend’s Black Lives Matter protests in Australia. There’s no point in me simply parroting everyone else.

Articles, Podcasts, Media Appearances, Corporate Largesse

None. Yes, that does look bad.

The Week Ahead

The isolation continues at Bunjaree Cottages at Wentworth Falls. Monday is the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, but I’ll devote it to recording that new episode of The 9pm Edict. Nearly all the pre-production is done, so it’s now “just” the performance and the post.

The 9pm Edict is supported by the generosity of its listeners. Please subscribe for special benefits or throw a few coins into the tip jar. Please consider.

The Australian Parliament is sitting from Wednesday this week through to Thursday the following week, so there’s bound to be something interesting to write about.

On Thursday I’ll probably drop into the panel discussions Lowy Institute Live: In conversation with Kurt Campbell and Michèle Flournoy and Telum Talks… Journalism in the era of COVID-19, and where we go from here.

Further Ahead

There’s still almost nothing scheduled for certain. These conference dates are all tentative.
